On the afternoon of November 5th, Hanoi Metro announced that starting from November 10th, 2025, monthly, weekly, and daily tickets for the Cat Linh – Ha Dong urban railway line will be temporarily discontinued. Ticket counters at stations will cease operations as the company focuses on upgrading to a new payment technology system.
“During this period, passengers can still purchase single-trip tickets using the existing method at automated ticket machines within stations. Additionally, weekly and monthly tickets will remain available at ticket counters but will transition to a new electronic ticket model—either as a mobile e-ticket with identification or an e-ticket linked to a citizen ID card,” stated a Hanoi Metro representative.
From November 18th, passengers will use their smartphones to scan QR codes for boarding instead of purchasing physical tickets.
During the transition, two legacy ticket gates will remain operational at each station to accommodate passengers who have not yet switched to the new payment system. However, Hanoi Metro urges passengers to proactively complete the transition before November 15th, 2025, to ensure timely support and address any issues. All automated ticket machines will be decommissioned for upgrades starting November 16th, 2025.
Previously, Hanoi Metro announced that from November 18th, all passengers on the Cat Linh-Ha Dong line will use a QR code-based gate system (electronic identification and biometric authentication). Traditional tickets and manual ticket purchases will no longer be accepted.
To adopt this payment method, passengers must download the “Hanoi Metro” app, register, and simply open the app to scan the QR code at the gate for each trip.
