2023 Remittances Surpass Half of Ho Chi Minh City’s Budget Revenue

As part of the Homeland Spring 2024 program in Ho Chi Minh City, this morning (2/2), the overseas Vietnamese delegation had a tour of the City Hall and met with city leaders.

Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Vo Van Hoan – Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City acknowledged and highly appreciated the contributions of overseas Vietnamese to the development of the city in the context of global economic difficulties.

According to Mr. Hoan, in 2023, the remittances to Ho Chi Minh City reached nearly 9.5 billion USD (a 40% increase compared to 2022), accounting for nearly 50% of the city’s total budget revenue. This demonstrates the solidarity and sharing of overseas Vietnamese with the local people. Overseas Vietnamese always accompany and connect with the city in many major projects and works.

After the meeting with the leaders of Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee, the delegation of overseas Vietnamese attended a meeting to honor the outstanding collective and individual Vietnamese abroad in 2024. This activity was organized by the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front in coordination with the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese.

At the meeting, Ms. Le Thi Thu Hang – Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Chairman of the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese emphasized that the outstanding overseas Vietnamese are prominent figures in many fields who have made significant contributions to the country and the community.

According to Ms. Hang, the overseas Vietnamese community currently has nearly 6 million people living, studying, and working in 130 countries and territories. Despite facing many difficulties in the past year, overseas Vietnamese have made efforts to adapt, stabilize their lives, and continue to contribute to their homeland.

Honoring outstanding collectives and individuals of overseas Vietnamese

Vice Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) To Thi Bich Chau affirmed that in the coming time, the VFF will strongly implement the work of overseas Vietnamese, aiming for unity in the perception of agencies and units in the political system and the entire people of the importance of mobilization, gathering, and solidarity of overseas Vietnamese.

At the same time, enhance social supervision and criticism in the continued improvement and implementation of policies, laws, and regulations on overseas Vietnamese; improve the mechanism to promote the contribution of overseas Vietnamese to the deep and wide development and international integration of the country.

On this occasion, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front awarded certificates of merit to 7 collectives and 15 outstanding individuals of overseas Vietnamese.
