Green Sticky Rice Cake – A Blissful Tet in the Fishermen’s Village

28 families, for the first time, experienced a traditional Lunar New Year celebration in their newly constructed and luxurious houses by the river in Lam Dat village, Thieu Vu commune, Thieu Hoa district, Thanh Hoa province.

On the occasion of the Lunar New Year, Thieu Hoa district organized the “Green Chung Cake – Peaceful Tet” program in celebration of the 2024 Lunar New Year for 28 households of people living on the river, who have been allocated land and supported in building houses in Lam Dat village, Thieu Vu commune.

At the program, the Provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee presented 28 gifts, each worth 1.2 million VND; Thieu Hoa district presented 28 gifts, each worth 700,000 VND for 28 households; Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs of Thanh Hoa province presented 38 gifts, each worth 800,000 VND for the children of the households living on the river, who have been allocated land and supported in building houses in Lam Dat village, Thieu Vu commune.

On behalf of the households of people living on the river attending the “Green Chung Cake – Peaceful Tet” program, Mr. Nguyen Van Sinh (72 years old) expressed gratitude for the attention and support of the provincial leaders and authorities, both materially and spiritually, to help the people settle on land, to celebrate the traditional Tet festival in their new, spacious and warm houses after many years of living on the water.

In her speech at the program, Ms. Pham Thi Thanh Thuy, Chairwoman of the Provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee, praised the preparations of Thieu Hoa district and Thieu Vu commune in mobilizing resources to take care of the people, especially the poor and those facing difficulties, in implementing the slogan “Everyone, every family has Tet”, especially the “Green Chung Cake – Peaceful Tet” program held in Lam Dat village.

The Head of the Provincial Party Committee’s Mass Mobilization Board and Chairman of the Provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee emphasized: This is the first time that 28 households of people living on the river have celebrated a traditional Tet festival of the ethnic people in their new and spacious houses on the land. Therefore, the “Green Chung Cake – Peaceful Tet” program continues to affirm the concern of all levels, sectors, and philanthropists in taking care of the people, so that the compatriots can truly enjoy a joyful, warm, and meaningful new year of 2024.

Ms. Pham Thi Thanh Thuy expressed her hope that the Catholic followers will continue to unite, fulfill their responsibilities as citizens, actively participate in patriotic movements, local campaigns, actively engage in labor and production, and resolutely not return to living on the water to stabilize their lives, create favorable conditions for their children’s education, and build a better and more beautiful life.

The people living on the river receive chung cakes and celebrate Tet on land for the first time

Thieu Vu commune has more than 140 households of fishermen living along the Chu River. In 2008, the locality mobilized 35 households to move to the land, and recently, 28 more households have done the same.

In April 2023, Thieu Hoa district completed the technical infrastructure of the resettlement area in Lam Dat village, Thieu Vu commune, with an area of over 1 hectare, meeting the criteria for upgrading the new rural area and urban planning infrastructure criteria. At the same time, the district allocated land to the households to build houses, with an area of each household ranging from 100 to 153 square meters.

In addition to being allocated land, each household also received support of 150 million VND to build new houses for long-term stability. Since mid-August, 28 new houses have been basically completed and the households have moved in, starting a new journey, preparing for a new life.
