According to information from the Department of Tourism of Thua Thien Hue province, the number of tourists coming to Hue in the first month of 2024 continued to increase, especially international visitors.
Specifically, in January 2024, Thua Thien Hue welcomed nearly 308,000 visitors, an increase of nearly 25.4% compared to the same period last year, of which international visitors reached nearly 152,000, an increase of over 98.5% compared to the same period last year. The total tourism revenue is estimated to reach over VND 595 billion, an increase of 10.4% compared to the same period. The top 10 leading markets to Hue in the past period were: Taiwan, Malaysia, the United States, Thailand, France, Australia, Germany, the United Kingdom, South Korea, and Singapore.
In 2023, the number of international tourists to Hue increased significantly, with nearly 1.2 million tourists, an increase of nearly 345% compared to 2022.
At the beginning of 2024, there is good news for the Ancient Capital’s tourism as the world’s leading online travel platform Tripadvisor has honored Hue in the 8th position among the top 25 cultural destinations in the world in 2024 within the Travelers’ Choice Best of the Best Destinations Awards (Best destinations among the best destinations voted by travelers). Tripadvisor is one of the largest travel websites in the world, with about 463 million visits per month, and it is also from this platform that foreign tourists will make their decision on choosing their upcoming travel destinations.
This is not the first time that Hue has been listed in the “international perspective”. Not long ago (late 2023), the famous American travel magazine Travel+Leisure suggested that Thua Thien Hue of Vietnam is one of the destinations in Asia that travelers cannot miss in their 2024 travel journey.
The tourism industry of Thua Thien Hue province, along with tourism businesses and related units, are organizing numerous activities and tourism products to welcome guests, promoting cultural activities, programs, festivals to serve tourists during the Lunar New Year holiday, and providing them with an authentic Hue experience.
Recently, Hue tourism industry has also received good news, as within the framework of the ASEAN Tourism Forum (ATF), the ceremony to award the ASEAN Clean City Tourism Award took place in Vientiane, Laos. Hue City is one of the three cities representing Vietnam to receive the award, the other two cities are Vung Tau (Ba Ria – Vung Tau province) and Quy Nhon (Binh Dinh province).
This award is within the framework of the ASEAN Tourism Forum (ATF) taking place from January 22-27. The ASEAN Clean City Tourism Award is an annual award that contributes to honoring and developing high-quality tourism brands in the region. At the same time, it is an opportunity for units to promote and enhance the effectiveness of promoting Vietnam’s tourism and the national destination brand.
The destinations in the region wishing to participate in the competition will submit their registration documents. Experts will score based on the 108 criteria of the award and divide them into 7 main categories: Environmental management, cleanliness level, waste management, environmental protection awareness, green space, urban safety and health, and tourism infrastructure and facilities.
This is not the first time that the three destinations have been awarded the ASEAN Clean City Tourism Award. Quy Nhon was honored in 2020, while Vung Tau and Hue have won the award three times before.
In addition to the above award, Hue has received 2 more ASEAN Tourism Awards 2024 – 2026 at the ATF 2024 event, including: ASEAN Sustainable Tourism Product 2024 for Cultural – Art – Plant-Based Culinary Experiences at An Nhiên Garden; ASEAN MICE Destination 2024 – Event Venue category for Silkpath Grand Hue Hotel (the second consecutive year).
