Dozens of shops selling Binh Dinh apricot trees at the Da Nang Tet Flower Market (Tien Son Sports Palace, Hai Chau District) still have hundreds of trees left. Traders said that apricots have never been as unsold as this year. Prices have been reduced by 50-70% but still do not attract customers.
Binh Dinh apricot trees are not attracting customers at the Da Nang Tet Flower Market, traders smash pots and take out roots to bring back
Mr. Nguyen Huu Phuc brings 200 apricot trees to Da Nang to sell from the 21st of the last lunar month. Until the 30th day of Tet, he still has 160 trees left. When he first came to the flower market, he sold each tree for 2-4 million VND. Now, the price is reduced to 4 million VND, still further reduced to 1.5 million VND.
“I am selling at a loss to get money from the trees, and consider other expenses as self-funded” – Mr. Phuc said.
Despite the significant price reduction, apricot shops are still not attracting customers, many people inquire but do not buy. Mr. Nguyen Cong Bang said that by the 30th day of Tet, he still has more than 60 trees out of 100 apricot trees he brought to the flower market.
According to Mr. Bang, the difficult economic situation greatly affects people’s spending on flowers and ornamental trees this year.
At 1 p.m. on the 30th day of Tet, whether sold out or not, Mr. Bang decided to leave the flower market to go back to Binh Dinh to celebrate Tet with his family. Any unsold apricot trees, Mr. Bang will smash the pots, tie the roots and put them on the car to bring back for further care next year.
Many other traders are also in similar situations, they start breaking pots to take out the apricot roots.
The 2024 Da Nang Tet Flower Market is organized on the sidewalk of 3 roads adjacent to Tien Son Sports Palace including: Nai Nam 2 Street, Doan Khue Street, and Nai Nam 3 Street in Hoa Cuong Bac Ward, Hai Chau District from January 31st to February 9th, 2024 (from the 21st to the 30th day of the last lunar month).
