According to reporters, a watermelon shop on Le Hong Phong Street (Ward 3, Soc Trang City) sold watermelons for 25,000 VND/kg on the 28th of Tet; 15,000 VND/kg on the 29th of Tet; and 10,000 VND/kg on the morning of the 30th of Tet, but there were still a few buyers.

Mr. Quy, a local resident, shared: “Yesterday, I bought watermelons for 15,000 VND/kg, and a pair of 12kg watermelons cost 180,000 VND. Today, they are selling the same type of Tet watermelons for 100,000 VND/pair.”

According to reports, at the flower market in 5A Urban Area (Ward 4, Soc Trang City), the price of flowers dropped dramatically, causing many flower sellers to suffer losses.

Mr. Khoa, a gardener from Cau Ke, Tra Vinh Province, said: “I brought nearly 500 pairs of large carnations. Just the day before, I sold them for 1.5 million VND/pair; this morning, the price dropped to only 600,000 VND/pair, but they still haven’t sold out. I grow the flowers myself and sell them mainly to cover the cost of buying pots, hiring vehicles to transport them to Soc Trang, and renting space.”

A female garden owner in Sa Dec, Dong Thap, lamented: “Last year, I sold daisies and chrysanthemums for 180,000 VND/pair, and close to Tet, the price dropped to 120,000 VND/pair. This year, the price has decreased by more than 50%. A pair of daisy or chrysanthemum flowers used to cost 170-180,000 VND/pair, but now they are sold for 140,000 VND/pair and this morning they were only sold for 100,000 VND/pair, but still no one is buying them.”

A flower seller of daisies had to abandon nearly 100 plants because of the dramatic price drop and no one interested in buying.
