The text is signed by Deputy Director of Vietnam Aviation Authority Do Hong Cam requesting airlines to report on ticket sales as required by Circular 17/2019 of the Ministry of Transport, which promulgates the price framework of passenger transportation services on domestic routes.
Supervising the activities of airlines with ticket agents and handling measures. Vietnam Aviation Authority requires airlines to submit reports no later than February 26th.
Earlier, the Ministry of Transport had requested Vietnam Aviation Authority to preside over and coordinate with Vietnamese airlines to investigate and clarify media reports on the “feverish” air ticket prices.
During Tet 2024, many passengers reported having difficulty buying air tickets from provinces returning to Ho Chi Minh City. By February 21st, some flights from Hanoi, Chu Lai, Hue… to Ho Chi Minh City were still difficult to buy or the ticket prices remained high. For example, on the websites of airlines, the Hanoi – Ho Chi Minh City route operated nearly 20 – 25 flights per day but there were scarce tickets, and some airlines were sold out.
In a conversation with Tuoi Tre, a representative of the Vietnam Aviation Authority said that after the airlines have reported on their air ticket sales during the Tet holiday, the Authority will review and continue to closely monitor the situation of air tickets during the peak period after Tet.
Statistical data from the Vietnam Aviation Authority shows that the total passenger transportation market through air routes from February 8th – 14th (from the 29th day of the 12th lunar month to the 5th day of Tet) reached over 1.5 million passengers (an increase of 11% compared to the same period in 2023).
