USD exchange rate continues to surge, reaching a new high of 25,700 VND

On the morning of March 5th, the USD price in the free market continued to surge and reached a new high level.

The prevalent buying price is around 25,550 dong, an increase of about 50 dong compared to yesterday. The selling price at many unofficial trading points reaches 25,700 dong, up about 100 dong from yesterday. Previously, on March 4, the free USD price also increased by 100-150 dong. So, from the beginning of the year until now, the free USD price has increased by about 900 dong.

The USD prices at banks this morning adjusted slightly compared to yesterday. At Vietcombank, the USD exchange rate this morning reached a peak of 24,870 dong in the afternoon, and has now been adjusted down to 24,850 dong. Currently, the USD price at Vietcombank is also close to the historical peak (recorded at the end of 2022) of 24,890 dong.

Other banks also list similar rates. Techcombank applies a USD exchange rate range of 24,538-24,838 dong. ACB lists 24,540-24,840 dong.

Some other banks have raised the cash USD selling price to nearly 25,000 dong. For example, VPBank is currently listing a buying price of 24,535 dong and a selling price of up to 24,945 dong.

From the beginning of the year until now, the USD price at banks has increased by about 400 dong, equivalent to a 1.7% increase.

The price difference between the official and unofficial markets is growing, reaching 850 dong in the morning of March 5.

The central exchange rate today (March 5) announced by the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) is 24,012 VND/USD, an increase of 8 dong compared to the previous week. With a fluctuation band of 5%, the exchange rate for USD at commercial banks is allowed to trade between 22,811 – 25,212 dong.

In recent times, the USD and gold prices in the domestic market have both increased sharply. On March 5, the price of a round 24k gold ring also set a new record of 68.5 million dong/tael. The SJC gold price is also approaching the milestone of 81 million dong/tael, the highest level ever.
