“I have seen cryptocurrencies being used in many different areas. I’m not sure if I would want to eliminate it at this time,” he shared in an interview on CNBC’s “Squawk Box.”
After Nikki Haley dropped out of the race, Trump is almost certain to become the Republican Party candidate in this year’s presidential election. He describes himself as having a conservative view on currency. “I’ve always said that I only want one type of currency, specifically the US dollar. I don’t want people to abandon the USD,” he said.
However, recently, when he launched his own expensive sports shoe brand, he noticed that many people bought them with cryptocurrencies. “You know, that’s cryptocurrencies. I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw such great revenue,” he said.
When asked if he has ever bought cryptocurrencies, Trump replied, “Not yet, but sometimes I still let people pay with Bitcoin.”
Trump’s comments have contributed to Bitcoin reaching a new all-time high. On March 12, Bitcoin price rose to $72,200, the highest level ever. Ethereum also broke the $4,000 mark.
