What do Big Investors prioritize when changing stock brokerage firms?

"Shark investors" are investors with substantial capital or NAV, ranging from billions to tens or hundreds of billions, and sometimes even trillions. They are quite demanding when it comes to opening a new securities account or switching to a new securities company.

In a recent sharing session from Pinetree securities’ “shark” group, with a 52% profit in just 2 months, the “sharks” shared many perspectives, requirements, as well as reasons why they opened or transferred securities accounts.

Brokers are not the number one priority

In the market, there are many “sharks” who are experienced and independent investors with the ability to make their own investment decisions. Broker recommendations are sources of information for reference and support, not substitutes for their investment decisions.

In Vietnam, brokers still play an important role in guiding investors, especially new and inexperienced ones. However, not all brokers are competent and professional, leading to many investors being in tears when relying on poor-quality brokers.

Although even the most experienced investors cannot accurately predict market fluctuations, the more experienced the “sharks” are, the more they are able to evaluate factors that impact the market.

Therefore, most “sharks” are less reliant on brokers.

Stable trading system with high speed

With large average trading volumes in a session, shark investors prioritize investing in a well-invested trading platform system that is free of lags. The integration of the KRX (Korea Exchange) system into operations is also expected to boost trading scale. Meeting the system demands is crucial for investors in the upcoming time.

Good fee policies and leverage rates

Transaction fees currently range from 0.1% to 0.35% of the transaction value. If there are regular transactions with NAVs totaling billions of VNDs per month, the monthly fees can be tens of millions to hundreds of millions of VND.

Some investors often overlook these fees. However, most independent shark investors are impressed with this policy. Many of them view the reduction of transaction fees and margin interest as the reason to open additional securities accounts with other companies. Mr. Mai Huu Luat, a shark who won the Master Investor award in the “Billion Dollar Stock Market” investment competition organized by Pinetree securities and Cafef, shared: “At the end of 2019, I discovered a new company from Korea with a very special policy at that time – a lifetime free trading policy. At that time, there were not many companies with such a policy. After using it, I found the system stable and decided to transfer all my assets here to trade faithfully.”

The company mentioned by this investor is Pinetree Securities, a company owned by Hanwha Group, Korea. Thanks to utilizing cheap capital, since officially entering the Vietnamese market until now, after 5 years of operation, they still maintain a lifetime free trading policy along with the market’s lowest margin interest rate, a fixed, unconditional rate always below 10%.

Pinetree applies “Lifetime Free” to all customers and is ready to cut a portion of their revenue to help individuals easily access stock investment opportunities.

With the unique “three no’s” strategy – no branches, no brokers, no transaction fees, Pinetree allocates budgets to invest heavily in technology, online trading systems, and provide technology tools that substitute brokers. As a result, most investors are satisfied with the trading system operated according to Korean standards, with fast order placement and high processing speeds that meet the needs of shark investors.
