This project is part of an urban refurbishment project, expected to be located in the pedestrian bridge area near Halong Bay, at the intersection of Tran Hung Dao and Tran Quoc Nghien streets. The goal is to convey a message to the local people and visitors about the dynamic, modern city of Halong, a world natural wonder, and to create a new highlight for tourism.

An artistic concept of a sailboat exploring the magnificent scenery of Halong Bay.

Halong City is currently seeking feedback on 4 design proposals. Option 1, “Boat and Sea,” creatively illustrates a sailboat sailing to discover the magnificent scenery of Halong Bay. The structure is planned to be over 24 meters high, 31 meters wide, with a slim layout that contrasts with the small islands in the bay.

The sail section is made of soft, curving lines made of glass fiber reinforced concrete and steel structure, providing a modern and harmonious image that complements the existing natural heritage without interfering with it. The sea waves are shaped by curved stainless steel bars, wrapped in lighting cables, ensuring aesthetics during the day and serving as a highlight at night.

“Sunrise in the Bay” is the name of the second design concept.

“Sunrise in the Bay” is the name of the second design concept, stylized in a circular shape representing the unity of all elements required for Halong to develop into a modern city, a green city, an economic and tourism hub for Quang Ninh Province and Vietnam in general. It symbolizes a new energetic day blending with the poetic landscape of the bay.

Design consists of a stylized concrete and steel fiber structure in a circular shape, with a diameter of over 17 meters. The sea waves are similar to Option 1.

Option 3 is a combination of Option 1 and Option 2.

Option 3 is called “Setting Sail,” combining elements from Option 1 and Option 2, demonstrating both strength and tranquility.

The most notable option is the fourth one, named “Flying Halong – Land of Dragon.” The structure in this design is 30 meters high and 42 meters wide, including 5 dragon statues symbolizing the unity of the five continents, rising, developing around the globe. The design consists of a steel frame combined with LED lights and water spray towers.

The fourth design option with the image of 5 dragons has attracted public attention.

Halong City is the capital of Quang Ninh Province, an international tourist center with Halong Bay being recognized twice by UNESCO as a world natural heritage. In 2023, Halong is expected to welcome around 8.5 million visitors, generating a revenue of 18,700 billion VND.
