The Long Thanh Airport link package is located in Long Thanh district, Dong Nai province, including the T1 and T2 lines, with a total construction value of 2.630 trillion VND.

On these two lines, there are three junctions and 1 bar-top bridge, 4 empty lumbar bridges, and 4 simple bridges. The construction time is 885 days. Currently, the ground of T1 line has been handed over 99.8%, T2 line reaches over 81%. The contractor has mobilized 630 personnel with over 200 machinery and equipment, deploying 20 construction fronts for the entire line.

These days, the temperature in the southern region is increasing, especially in the areas in the Southeastern region, including Dong Nai province, with extensive heat waves. The highest temperature reaches 35-37 degrees. The contractor has adjusted the working hours to start earlier and finish earlier to avoid the midday heat. On the construction site of the T1 line, engineers and workers “face the scorching sun” to work.

At this time, the contractor has completed the K95 technical road embankment, with the main road surface reaching about 40%. The bridge items, bored pile construction, and various types of piles have reached 938/1,200 piles, completed 82/138 column foundations, and 30/138 column bodies. The overall progress of the contract is 20.6%.

According to the technical design documents, the T1 line is 4.3 km long with a designed speed of 80 km/h according to the urban main road standards, deployed from the western boundary of Long Thanh airport to National Highway 51. From there, it connects Long Thanh airport to Ho Chi Minh City and the western provinces of the airport.

The T1 line is also a main traffic route for transporting machinery, equipment, and materials to serve the construction of future items of phase 1 of Long Thanh airport.

The T2 line is 3.5 km long with a high-speed road standard and a designed speed of 100 km/h, located on the Bien Hoa – Vung Tau expressway section between the Ho Chi Minh City – Long Thanh – Dau Giay expressway and is a very important route connecting Long Thanh airport to the North-South expressway.

The two junctions of this project are designed with the traditional lotus flower and drum symbols. Along the number 1 and number 2 routes connecting Long Thanh airport, many shallow bridges will be constructed to serve the travel needs of people living around the project area.

The completion deadline according to the contract is December 2025, however, the contractor is mobilizing personnel and machinery to accelerate the progress and complete it before the required deadline.

The only difficulty at present is that there are still some unsettled areas right next to the construction site that have not been relocated. The contractor said they have worked with the investor to propose that the Dong Nai Provincial People’s Committee expedite the land handover for synchronized construction.

The Long Thanh airport project is a particularly important national-level project, with great significance for Vietnam’s socio-economic development. The total investment capital of the project is about 336.630 trillion VND (16 billion USD), of which 4% is allocated to phase 1.

Phase 1 of Long Thanh airport has an investment scale of 1 runway and 1 passenger terminal, along with coordinated auxiliary items with a capacity of 25 million passengers per year and 1.2 million tons of cargo per year. After completing all phases, Long Thanh airport will have a capacity of up to 100 million passengers per year.

On March 14, Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) held a ceremony to kick off the competition to complete the construction and technical operation of the Long Thanh airport runway ahead of the progress set in the contract by more than 3 months. This is a prerequisite item for Long Thanh Airport to operate and ensure safe operation.

ACV has directed the consortium of contractors to mobilize over 350 machinery and equipment and nearly 1,500 engineers and workers to focus on construction to shorten the project schedule.

The goal is to complete the construction and technical operation of the Long Thanh airport runway before April 30, 2025, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and the reunification of the country.
