The Internet is buzzing about a video from Apple

Apple recently uploaded an official advertisement titled “iPhone 15 Storage | Don’t Let Me Go | Apple” on the Internet, highlighting the convenience of storing data on iCloud and addressing users’ concerns about insufficient memory on smartphones.

With the increasing demand for smartphone storage, the iPhone 15 series still maintains a base memory configuration from 128 to 521GB (iPhone 15 Pro from 128GB to 1TB, and iPhone 15 Pro Max from 256GB to 1TB).

To explain this decision, Apple’s advertisement wants to convey the message that even with the aforementioned base memory configuration, users can still easily store large-sized photos through iCloud.

Video “iPhone 15 Storage – Don’t Let Me Go – Apple”

In the advertisement video, a white man faced a dilemma between deleting or not deleting photos on his iPhone. The melody of “Don’t Let Me Go” played in the background, expressing the appreciation of precious memories.

At the end of the video, Apple presents the catchy taglines “Lots of storage for lots of photos” and “Relax, it’s iPhone 15”, which many users believe convey the message that iCloud can easily solve the problem.

However, many users express the opinion that although storing data on the cloud can solve some problems, purchasing additional iCloud storage still incurs a certain monthly cost and is not entirely free.

At the same time, some users believe that as the size of applications continues to increase and high-definition multimedia content becomes more popular, the base memory of the iPhone should also be increased accordingly to meet daily usage demands.

“Did anyone miss a beat?”

Despite the concerns of users mentioned above, there may be a hidden intention by Apple in the aforementioned advertisement video, not only regarding iCloud but also coming from an improvement that will only be available on the iPhone 15 series and products launched after September 2023.

And it is related to the USB-C port instead of Lightning.

According to the information released by Apple’s official support page https://support.apple.com/, the USB-C port on the iPhone 15 can use USB 2 standard cables to connect to various devices including external hard drives and SD card readers for data transfer.

Users can also use the iPhone 15 to record videos in HEVC, H.264, and ProRes formats and directly store them on external memory.

It should be noted that to record videos directly onto external memory, Apple states that the memory itself must meet the following requirements:

1. Must be formatted as either APFS or exFAT. No password encryption support.

2. Use a USB 3 cable with a minimum speed of 10 Gbit per second.

3. Have a minimum write speed of 220 MB/s.

4. Use the Files app to format the external memory and manage HEVC, H.264, and ProRes files.

5. Have limitations on capacity. Compatible memory cards usually have capacities of 128GB, 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB.

6. To stop recording videos onto the iPhone, simply disconnect the external memory.

In more detail, this support page also explains how users can quickly transfer photos and videos from their iPhones (including models with Lightning ports) to SD cards with the following steps:

“You can directly export photos and recorded videos on the iPhone to external drives, memory cards, or other storage devices. Note: For edited photos and videos, the original unmodified version will be exported.”

1. Connect your iPhone to a storage device using a Lightning or USB-C cable, or connect the storage device directly to your iPhone.

2. Open the Photos app, then select the photos and videos you want to export, click on Apple’s export icon, and then click Export Unmodified Original.

3. Click on your storage device (below Locations), then click Save.”
