U.S. presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. wants to put the entire U.S. budget on the blockchain.
During a rally in Michigan on April 21, he floated the idea, saying the move would allow every American to examine “every single line item any time they want, 24 hours a day.”
“We’re going to have 300 million eyeballs on our budget and if somebody’s spending $16,000 on a toilet seat, the people are going to know about it.”
Kennedy’s plan is to increase transparency and accountability in government spending by using a blockchain to track and make public government expenditures. The proposal has been met with support from the cryptocurrency community, who have highlighted its potential to revolutionize and potentially eradicate corrupt practices.
However, some critics have suggested that Kennedy may be advocating for a central bank digital currency (CBDC) through his blockchain plan, despite Kennedy’s previous opposition to CBDCs on privacy grounds.
