The price of plane tickets for the Hanoi – Ho Chi Minh City route has dropped during the April 30 – May 1 holiday.
Compared to the Lunar New Year 2024 peak (late February), Vietnam Airlines reported that some night and morning flights were sold out. For flights with available seats, most of the tickets cost over 3.5 million VND. At that time, even though Bamboo Airways and Vietjet Air still had tickets, the price was also around 3.4 million VND.
For tourism routes, the Hanoi – Phu Quoc route currently has a round-trip airfare in 27/4-1/5 is quite expensive, up to 8.5 million VND (excluding taxes and fees). According to Ms. Tho – a staff member of an air ticket agent in Hanoi – said: “During the April 30 – May 1 holiday, people tend to travel instead of going home like during the Lunar New Year. This has led to tourism flights from Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City running out of tickets very quickly. However, it is undeniable that the airlines’ decision to increase the number of flights during the recent period has caused the airfare for the Hanoi – Ho Chi Minh City route to cool down.
Ms. Tho said that currently, passengers hardly have the opportunity to book cheap plane tickets for travel because it is too close to the date. This staff member advises that if you plan to take a vacation during the holiday, passengers should constantly monitor the price of airfares a month in advance or through agents to get a reasonable cost.
Most tourism flights from Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi are currently running out of tickets during the holiday.
Recently, Vietnam Airlines has opened for sale many more economy class tickets with attractive prices in the late evening time slot such as economy saving tickets (from 1.7 – 1.9 million VND/leg including tax, fee) for the Hanoi – Ho Chi Minh City route. The number of economy saver tickets on the routes between Hanoi/Ho Chi Minh City – Da Nang, Nha Trang, Quy Nhon has also been increased.
The above airlines will operate over 2,000 additional flights in the time slots after 9 pm every day on the routes between many tourism legs to add more options for passengers. Some business class seats of Vietnam Airlines are only priced from over 1.9 million VND (including taxes and fees) for some domestic flights with departure slots before 6 am and after 9 pm.
Besides adding night flights for domestic routes, Vietjet Air continues to increase the frequency of flights between Hanoi/Ho Chi Minh City – Dien Bien to 28 flights/week. The Hanoi – Dien Bien air route will increase to 14 flights per week from May 3-11.
During the Hung Kings’ holiday week, 30/4-1/5, Vietjet added 86,000 seats, equivalent to over 450 flights on tourism routes, increasing the frequency of flights to and from Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Da Nang, Nha Trang.
