News from the Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation (VATM – Ministry of Transport), VATM has just signed a competitive agreement to accelerate the progress of the 2 key projects of Long Thanh airport air traffic control tower and the Air Traffic Control Center in HCMC with the determination to “overcome sun and rain, and finish the project soon”.

Mr. Nguyen Dinh Cong, Deputy General Director of VATM affirmed that it is necessary to strive to outperform the progress of the items belonging to the flight management project at Long Thanh airport and the air traffic control center project in HCMC in order to make up for the progress and reserve for the time affected by adverse weather conditions in the rainy season.

Identifying this as the crucial stage in the progress of the implementation of the 2 projects, VATM requested that the contractors create a competitive atmosphere, and the consulting supervisors must closely follow the construction site and urge the contractors to deploy the correct plan and techniques.

Under the witness of VATM leaders, the PMU and construction contractors signed a commitment to specific milestones of the project items.

Accordingly, the Long Thanh air traffic control tower must complete the concrete pouring to a height of 84.705m by June 20. The project has currently completed the concrete pouring to a height of 66.555m. It is expected to pour concrete to a height of 75.580m before May 19.

Nearly 200 engineers and workers are constructing the Long Thanh air traffic control tower

Currently, at the construction site, the contractors regularly mobilize nearly 200 engineers, workers, and construction machinery, equipment, and vehicles to work continuously.

For the air traffic control center project in HCMC, the target is to complete the construction of the concrete structure and finish the roof of the project operator before September 2.

The Ho Chi Minh City air traffic control center project was started on February 15 under an urgent order and has great pressure on progress. Therefore, VATM has requested the PMU to coordinate with the construction contractor and consulting supervisor to specify commitments, adjust and shorten the construction progress by signing a contract appendix as a basis for progress management.

After 70 days since the groundbreaking, the project has implemented and exceeded the progress, urgently completing a number of items such as: drilling, pile driving, pouring concrete ties, backfilling two areas, digging the foundation, pouring concrete foundation lining, processing reinforcement, formwork, foundation concrete, constructing underground water tanks, antenna towers…

The PMU and contractors are committed to completing the bottom floor structure on June 20, 2024, 23 days ahead of schedule. The project will be completed on September 2, 24 days ahead of schedule.

According to VATM, the early putting into operation of these 2 key projects will help to share and overcome the current overload situation at Tan Son Nhat airport.
