Project Update: An Tay River Port in Binh Duong Province

In June 2023, the Binh Duong Provincial People’s Committee approved a decision to select an investor for the An Tay River Port project.

With a scale of over 100 hectares, the project is expected to have a total investment of approximately VND 2,300 billion.

The Binh Duong Department of Planning and Investment subsequently posted information about the An Tay River Port project on the Ministry of Planning and Investment’s National Bidding Portal. However, despite two extensions of the deadline for submitting proposals, no applications have been received from potential investors.

Planned layout of An Tay River Port

A Binh Duong Department of Planning and Investment official acknowledged that the An Tay River Port project’s large scale and complexity have deterred investors.

Recently, Becamex IDC submitted a proposal to the Provincial People’s Committee to conduct research, surveys, and prepare a proposal for the An Tay Urban Area – Dry Port Investment Project.

According to this proposal, the An Tay River Port will cover approximately 180 hectares, with the port area occupying approximately 97 hectares and the urban-resettlement area covering approximately 83 hectares.

In a meeting in April 2024, the Binh Duong Provincial People’s Committee assigned the Ben Cat Town People’s Committee to research and incorporate the function of a dry port into the An Tay Dry Port, making it a multimodal port (passenger and cargo port) and updating it in the Binh Duong Province Planning for the period 2021 – 2030, with a vision to 2050.

According to the Binh Duong Provincial People’s Committee, the An Tay River Port aims to establish a logistics service chain to transport goods from Tay Ninh, Binh Phuoc, and the Central Highlands region to Cat Lai Port (Ho Chi Minh City) and Cai Mep – Thi Vai Port (Ba Ria – Vung Tau), avoiding traffic congestion on road routes.

The An Tay River Port’s strategic location connects it to major industrial parks, alleviates traffic congestion in areas connecting to Ho Chi Minh City, and provides convenient river connections to Cat Lai and Cai Mep ports. It also creates a closed logistics service zone to efficiently utilize multimodal transport infrastructure, reduce logistics costs, and boost industrial production locally and in the southeastern region.
