MG ZS – the subcompact SUV first launched in 2017 is preparing to enter its 2nd generation. The new generation test version of the vehicle has just appeared in Australia and has revealed many elements of both the interior and exterior.

In the new generation, MG ZS will use hybrid technology for the first time to compete with formidable international rivals such as the Toyota Corolla Cross. This is evidenced by the license plate of the test car having the EV sticker that is required to be on hybrid/electric vehicles in Australia. In addition, the dashboard inside the car records the number of engine revolutions, eliminating the possibility that this is a pure electric vehicle.
If referring to the MG3 launched in February, the MG ZS can combine a 1.5L 4-cylinder gasoline engine with 101 horsepower/125 Nm with a 134 horsepower/250 Nm electric motor, 1.83 kWh battery and a 3-speed automatic transmission.

In addition to the hybrid version, it is highly likely that the MG ZS will also have a pure electric version and a regular gasoline version. These are 2 configurations that are completely within MG’s reach as the company has the available technology platform.
The size of the car, based on the test version, seems to have been expanded. The previous length of the car was 4.3 meters – slightly shorter than the Toyota Corolla Cross (4.4 meters) but it is possible that the gap will no longer exist in the new generation.

The car’s interior was captured for the first time, showing the appearance of a large central touch screen and a row of physical control buttons below. This approach, along with elements such as the steering wheel, is similar to the latest MG3 and MG4. The 360-degree surround camera technology records the overall design image of the car. The electronic gear lever of the car has a design quite similar to that of Audi.
The new generation MG ZS will be fully launched in late 2024. This model is also likely to come to Vietnam as the B-segment is still becoming increasingly “hot”. The ZS itself is also an important model of MG in Vietnam.
