The project to expand the Au Co dike, 3.7 km long from the Thang Loi hotel to the Nhat Tan bridge, was started in 2020. The total investment capital was about 800 billion VND; however, after many adjustments to the progress, the volume of the entire project to date is completed by about 75%.

According to the reporter’s note, all the barriers and construction machinery on the Au Co road, Yen Phu section – to the Xuan Dieu junction, have been removed, and the road from the previous 2 motor vehicle lanes has now been expanded from 16.5 to 21m, equivalent to 4 motor vehicle lanes, partly addressing the traffic issue.

This is a ‘bottleneck’ section, about 260m long, which used to have only 2 lanes for both directions and often had traffic jams, has now been improved with 4 lanes.

Mr. Tran Sy Tung, residing in Au Co ward, Tay Ho district, Hanoi, shared: “Previously, there were times when the area of the 3rd intersection was completely jammed, unable to move. Until now, although the number of people traveling is still high, there is no more traffic jam. The opening of this section of road is very good, and we are also excited and comfortable traveling. Hopefully, the family business will soon resume normal operations.”

Mr. Pham Huy Hieu – Consulting supervisor in charge of package 39 of the Au Co – Nghi Tam road expansion project said: “This is a 260m long section, with a high volume of vehicles passing by, and was completed early to partly address the traffic issue.”

When it was not open to traffic, this area was a major traffic bottleneck. The traffic volume here was from all directions. Especially during rush hour, the congestion was very severe.

After opening the traffic from the Xuan Dieu intersection to before the Thang Loi hotel, cars and motorbikes have been circulating and moving smoothly, and there is no longer any congestion.

“Although there are still many difficulties in the construction process such as: a large volume of passing vehicles, construction in an area with a market, simultaneous implementation with the 110V electricity project, weather influence, etc., we try to open the technical traffic around 20/5/2024, and complete the auxiliary works in the third quarter of 2024,” – Mr. Pham Huy Hieu affirmed.
