North Korean leader Kim Jong Un surveyed flood-hit areas near the country’s border with China, where over 5,000 people had to evacuate due to the severe floods. Accompanying the leader on this visit was an unexpected vehicle: the Lexus LX 600.
Despite water levels reaching nearly 1 meter in depth, Mr. Kim Jong Un and his Lexus SUV braved the floodwaters. The North Korean government widely publicized images of the leader navigating the flooded areas, showcasing his concern for the affected citizens.

North Korea, like many other countries, faces the annual threat of flooding. While commending the rescue and relief efforts in the affected areas, Mr. Kim Jong Un also pointed out the shortcomings of local officials in dealing with the monsoon season.
This is not the first time the North Korean leader has personally inspected flood-affected areas. In 2020, Mr. Kim Jong Un visited a flood site in a Lexus LX 570, and photos showed him driving the vehicle himself.

According to information released by North Korea, Typhoon Gaemi brought heavy rains over the weekend, causing water levels in the border river to rise above the danger mark. The country deployed 10 military helicopters, boats, and necessary personnel to evacuate stranded citizens.
