Apple has brought a smile to the faces of owners of older iPhones, with its recent release of updates for devices up to 11 years old. A feat rarely matched by other smartphone manufacturers.

Apple continues to showcase its commitment to longevity and software support with its latest updates: macOS Monterey 12.7.6, macOS Ventura 13.6.8, iOS 15.8.3, iPadOS 15.8.3, iOS 16.7.9, and iPadOS 16.7.9.

The oldest devices compatible with these updates include the iPhone 6s/6s Plus (2015), iPad Air 2 (2014), MacBook Air (2015), iMac (2015), and Mac Pro (2013). That’s an impressive span of support, ensuring that even users with older devices can stay secure and relatively up-to-date.

While these updates may not bring flashy new features, they are crucial for patching security vulnerabilities and enhancing the performance and stability of Apple devices. It’s this long-term support that sets Apple apart from its competitors in the tech world.

With the upcoming release of iOS 18, Apple is also ensuring that older iPhones aren’t left behind. All iPhones running iOS 17 will be eligible for an upgrade to the new operating system. This includes devices like the iPhone Xs Max, iPhone XR, iPhone SE, and iPhone 11.

However, iPad users should note that the 6th generation iPad, 2nd generation iPad Pro 12.9-inch, and 2nd generation iPad Pro 10.5-inch will not be eligible for the iPadOS 18 update. Only iPad models from 2019 and later, including the iPad, iPad mini, iPad Air, and iPad Pro, will receive this update.
