Fake SSI Accounts Using AI to Scam Investors: SSI Warns of Sophisticated Fraud Attempts
On the evening of August 20th, SSI Securities Company issued a warning about the increasing sophistication of scam artists. The company alerted investors to the presence of fake Zalo accounts that employ AI technology to impersonate SSI’s top executives and offer investment advice via livestream.
The scammers have also created an account under the name of Nguyen Duy Hung, Chairman of SSI Securities, on the same platform. From there, they direct users to a private group on Telegram, where they use AI-generated images and videos of Mr. Hung to continue their fraudulent investment schemes.
SSI Securities confirmed that Mr. Nguyen Duy Hung owns only one verified, blue-tick account on Facebook. This account is used solely for expressing personal views and is not involved in investment advice or group discussions.
“Any personal accounts without a blue tick and not on the Facebook platform do not belong to Mr. Nguyen Duy Hung,” SSI asserted. The company urged investors to be vigilant and cautious when interacting in the digital environment to avoid falling prey to such scams.
The use of AI to impersonate leaders of securities companies is a recent, intricate scheme employed by financial technology criminals. Not only SSI, but other securities companies like MBS and VNDIRECT, as well as investment funds, have repeatedly warned about this issue.
Previously, Hoa Phat Group also spoke out against individuals and organizations impersonating the company to scam people out of money through various means, including fake job offers and investment schemes. The scammers even forged the signature of Mr. Tran Dinh Long, Chairman of Hoa Phat Group’s Board of Directors, on fake company announcements.
Hoa Phat Group clarified that they do not solicit investments for any of their projects. They have repeatedly warned about this on their website and through various communication channels, taking legal steps to address the issue.
Soon after, Vingroup, owned by billionaire Pham Nhat Vuong, also issued a warning about individuals and organizations impersonating their ecosystem to fraudulently gain money through fake job offers and investment schemes. According to Vingroup, there are over 17 fake websites pretending to be associated with the group, with some domain names deceptively similar, like vingroup.ink and vingroupventures.top.
