A once-promising agricultural project lies abandoned on unyielding sandy soil. The video footage and images capture the desolate scene: crumbling infrastructure, overgrown vegetation, and concrete pillars that stand as a testament to what could have been.

Faced with production challenges, the investor applied for a reduction in the project’s scale in 2019, decreasing the area from 240 to 96 hectares. The project is located on sandy land in Tan Van and Dong Van villages, Thach Van commune.

The project aimed to cultivate and produce high-quality, nutritious, and safe vegetables, fruits, and tubers by investing in large-scale agriculture, incorporating advanced technology, and automation. The produce was intended to cater to both domestic demands and exports.

The investor experimented with growing red-fleshed dragon fruit, but the results were disappointing, leading to a halt in expansion. Concrete pillars, now abandoned, were once intended to support the project’s infrastructure.

In April, the Ha Tinh Department of Planning and Investment announced the termination of this high-tech agricultural project in Thach Van commune due to its ineffectiveness. The net houses, once a part of the project, have fallen into disrepair over time.

The road leading to the project has become a dumping ground for construction waste, a sad testament to the project’s decline.

Previously, the investor cultivated various vegetables and fruits on over 2 hectares of land, but this endeavor was also short-lived, leaving behind abandoned machinery and workshops.

Nearly 100 hectares of land within the project remain unused and neglected.

“This project has been abandoned for a long time, and voters have repeatedly expressed their concerns,” said a leader of the People’s Committee of Thach Van commune, Thach Ha district. “While the high-tech agricultural project has been temporarily halted, we hope that the authorities will continue to show interest and provide guidance. We would like to see this land utilized by the people, cooperatives, or joint-stock companies to generate income and bring life to this barren sandy land.”
