Hyundai Palisade: A Spacious and Feature-Rich SUV

As of the 8th month of 2024, many dealerships are still clearing out their inventory of 2023 models. Notably, a dealership in Long An is offering a significant discount of up to 150 million VND on the 2023 Hyundai Palisade Prestige 6-seater, bringing the price down to 1.439 billion VND. This particular dealership claims that this is the last unit of the 2023 Palisade Prestige 6-seater, hence the substantial price reduction.

Other dealerships have also reported running out of the 2023 Hyundai Palisade a long time ago. A handful of showrooms may still have some units left, but the quantity and versions are extremely limited. For instance, a dealership in Bac Ninh only has the Palisade Exclusive 6-seater version available, and they are offering a discount of 134 million VND, bringing the price down to 1.345 billion VND.

In the Vietnamese market, the Hyundai Palisade competes directly with the Ford Explorer and VW Teramont. However, with the discounts offered by dealerships, the Palisade’s price is now comparable to that of D-segment SUVs such as the Ford Everest (priced between 1.099 billion and 1.545 billion VND) and the Toyota Fortuner (priced between 1.055 billion and 1.350 billion VND). The Palisade even overlaps with its smaller sibling, the Santa Fe, which has a maximum listed price of 1.369 billion VND.

Even before the price reduction, the Hyundai Palisade was already a competitive option compared to its rivals, the Ford Explorer and Volkswagen Teramont. With a starting price of just 1.469 billion VND and four different versions to choose from, the Palisade offers excellent value.

In contrast, the Ford Explorer has a listed price of 2.099 billion VND for its sole Limited version. The Volkswagen Teramont, despite introducing the new Limited Edition version with additional features, still has a price of 2.138 billion VND, which is significantly higher than the Palisade. Although Volkswagen also offers promotions for their 2023 VIN vehicles, the post-discount price is still considerably higher than that of the Palisade.

In the first seven months of the year, the Hyundai Palisade sold 676 units, while the Ford Explorer sold 421 units in the same period. Volkswagen does not disclose their sales figures for the Vietnamese market.

What Does the Hyundai Palisade Offer?

The Hyundai Palisade boasts impressive dimensions of 4,995 x 1,975 x 1,785 mm (length x width x height) and a wheelbase of 2,900 mm, making it the largest model in Hyundai’s current lineup in Vietnam. It comes in two versions: the standard Exclusive and the high-end Prestige, with each version offering a choice of 6 or 7 seats.

Externally, the Hyundai Palisade Exclusive features 18-inch wheels, while the Prestige version sports larger 20-inch wheels. Other exterior features such as LED lighting, LED positioning lights, LED taillights, and a black gloss grille are standard across both versions.

The interior of the two versions shares many similarities, including a leather-wrapped steering wheel, an electronic shift knob, a 12.3-inch central screen, a 12-speaker Infinity audio system, and Nappa leather seats. The standard version, however, does not come with a sunroof, rear-seat cooling and heating, heated steering wheel, or second-row sunshades, which are all found in the high-end version.

The interiors are also quite similar, but the standard version lacks the red-brown leather upholstery and sunroof found in the high-end version. Image: Hyundai Dealership

All Palisade versions are powered by a common 2.2L diesel engine that produces 200 horsepower and 440 Nm of torque, paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. The use of a diesel engine sets the Palisade apart from its competitors, as both the Explorer and Teramont are equipped with turbocharged gasoline engines.

In terms of safety features, both versions are almost identical, equipped with the SmartSense package that includes lane-keeping assist, emergency braking assist, blind-spot monitoring, and smart headlights. The only difference is that the Exclusive version has six airbags, while the Prestige version has seven.

With its competitive pricing, spacious interior, and abundance of features, the Hyundai Palisade is a strong contender for the “Typical Family Car” award at the Car Choice Awards (CCA) under the Better Choice Awards (CCA) 2024. This year, the CCA features seven award categories: Trend-Leading Car, Outstanding Car Design, Typical Car for New Users, Cool Car of the Year, Typical Family Car, Luxury Family Car, and Typical New Car Brand.
