On the afternoon of August 28, the People’s Committee of Ham My Commune, Thuan Nam District, was urgently mobilizing forces to evacuate people and move belongings of residents living along DT 719B road to a safe area.
Valuable items and furniture were carefully loaded onto specialized vehicles by the commune’s military and police forces, along with other security personnel, and transported to higher ground.
The elderly and people with disabilities who could not move by themselves were also evacuated from the flooded area to safety.
According to reports, heavy rainfall continued in the flooded areas of Ham My and its vicinity until the evening. The combination of intense rainfall and rising river water levels caused severe flooding in the dragon fruit farms, with only the treetops remaining above water.
In Tan Loc, Ham Thuan Nam, strong currents swept away motorcycles belonging to residents on the evening of August 27.
According to some residents of Ham My, flooding rarely occurred in this area in the past few years. However, since the construction of DT 719B road, the drainage system has not been effective, leading to severe flooding.
The authorities of Ham Thuan Nam District are currently focused on evacuating people and their belongings, providing assistance, and ensuring the safety of residents in the affected areas, as heavy rainfall continues to fall in the region.
