Ha Nam – A Province on the Rise
In recent years, Ha Nam has emerged as a locality with a fast and sustainable economic growth rate. In the first six months of 2024 alone, the province’s GRDP growth reached 10.35%, the highest in the Red River Delta region and the fourth highest in the country. As a result, people’s incomes have continued to increase, and living standards have improved tremendously.

In terms of road transport, the province has a series of arterial routes running through it, such as National Highway 1A and the Phap Van – Cau Gie – Ninh Binh Expressway. The Phap Van (Hanoi) – Phu Thu (Ha Nam) section of the expressway is proposed to be expanded from 8 lanes to 10-12 lanes, with the Phap Van – Ring Road 4 section having 12 lanes and the Ring Road 4 – Phu Thu section having 10 lanes. Especially, when the Phu Thu interchange on the Cau Gie – Ninh Binh Expressway is completed in 2025, connecting to Ring Road 5 of the Capital Region, traveling from neighboring provinces to Ha Nam will be more convenient than ever.
In terms of railways, Ha Nam owns a strategic stop, the Phu Ly station on the North-South high-speed railway, which is expected to commence construction in 2027. Meanwhile, the Capital Region’s second airport is expected to be invested and built in Ung Hoa – Phu Xuyen, Hanoi, which will give Ha Nam a significant advantage in cargo and passenger transportation across the country.
Another aspect that makes Ha Nam extremely attractive is its beautiful natural scenery formed by the confluence of three major rivers: Nhuệ, Châu, and Đáy. As the elders concluded, the province has a favorable position, where the essence of the mountains and rivers, and the heavens and the earth converge. Not to mention the vast treasure of tangible and intangible cultural heritages, imbued with the unique identity of the Red River Delta. Thanks to these attractions, the province attracts millions of domestic and foreign tourists every year, gradually becoming a must-visit destination on the journey to discover the nature and culture of Northern Vietnam.

However, the reality is that the existing urban area of the province has not kept up with the pace of economic development and the needs of its people. The old center of Phu Ly is narrow and lacks space to grow. The challenge is to form modern and high-class urban areas with the “all-in-one” criteria, not only to help realize the goal of turning Phu Ly into a first-class city by 2030 and making Ha Nam province become a centrally-run city by 2050 but also to meet the needs of Hanoi and neighboring provinces’ residents.
According to Mr. Nguyen Van Dinh, Vice President of the Vietnam Real Estate Association, Hanoi residents’ current need is to orient themselves towards large urban areas with a high quality of life.
