On August 30, the People’s Committee of Da Nang City organized a seminar with enterprises as part of the event “Semiconductor Day 2024”.
Da Nang aims to become one of the top three semiconductor centers in Vietnam by 2030, with a focus on developing a high-quality workforce and a synchronous semiconductor ecosystem. The city plans to train and attract a minimum of 5,000 high-quality professionals and invest in at least 20 semiconductor design and service companies.
Speaking at the seminar, Mr. Eric Juang, Vice President of Taiwan’s Semiconductor Research Institute, shared that their institute produces 2,000 chips annually, thanks to the contributions of over 3,000 high-quality professionals. He added that they plan to expand this ecosystem further, developing new technological platforms and training programs.
Regarding Da Nang’s aspirations in the semiconductor industry, Mr. Juang emphasized the need for a large number of high-quality professionals. He suggested a collaboration between the government, educational institutions, and enterprises to develop the necessary workforce. He expressed his hope for concrete cooperation with Da Nang in the near future.
Sharing a similar view, Mr. Robert Li, Vice President of Synopsys, underlined the importance of a robust talent pool for Da Nang, especially well-trained instructors to produce competent engineers.
Mr. Trinh Khac Hue, General Director of Qorvo Vietnam, acknowledged the potential for expanding the semiconductor industry in Da Nang, given the city’s special policies. He emphasized the crucial need for a high-quality workforce, which could create generations of semiconductor engineers, making Da Nang a semiconductor hub for the country.
Currently, Da Nang has approximately 550 semiconductor engineering designers (accounting for 7% of the country’s total), mostly trained at the University of Technology (Da Nang University).
Mr. Nguyen Van Quang, Secretary of the Da Nang Party Committee, emphasized that a high-quality workforce is the key to the success of the semiconductor industry. He added that the city’s educational institutions would work closely with enterprises to ensure that the training programs meet the industry’s demands.
Da Nang currently has 38 training institutions in the field of information technology. This year, three universities, including the University of Technology, the Vietnam-Korea University of Information and Communication Technology, and the University of Technical Education, admitted around 170 students to their semiconductor engineering programs.
