In a recent interview with VOV, Mr. Nguyen Van Thong, Vice Director of the Management Board of Tay Ninh Province’s Economic Zone, shared that Moc Bai is the largest southern land border gate, with 700-800 vehicles and 5,000-6,000 passengers passing through daily, sometimes exceeding 8,000.
Citing reports from Moc Bai Customs, he highlighted a remarkable USD 600 million in import-export turnover for the first half of 2025.
The upcoming completion of the Ho Chi Minh City-Moc Bai expressway will be a boon for Moc Bai. According to Mr. Thong, this expressway will reduce transportation time, logistics costs, and congestion on the already overloaded National Highway 22. Designed with four lanes and a speed limit of 120 km/h, it is a vital artery connecting the key southern economic region with Cambodia and ASEAN.
“We envisage that the expressway will transform Moc Bai into an ‘international logistics hub,’ attracting multinational corporations to establish factories and distribution centers, boosting tourism, trade, and services, and generating thousands of high-quality jobs for the local workforce in the coming years,” he stated.
In July, Tay Ninh submitted a proposal to the central government for the appraisal of a pilot project on mechanisms and policies for Moc Bai Border Gate Economic Zone. The proposal includes a list of priority sectors to attract strategic investors, such as innovation centers, research centers, logistics hubs, dry ports, high-end hotels, resorts, and entertainment complexes with golf courses and casinos.
Additionally, it suggests that domestic tourists traveling in groups organized by travel companies and foreign tourists entering the central commercial and tourism area in Moc Bai Border Gate Economic Zone be allowed to purchase goods for the domestic market and be exempt from import tax, value-added tax, and special consumption tax if the total value does not exceed VND 13 million per person per day. Other proposals are also included in the project.
Located approximately 70km from Ho Chi Minh City and 170km from Phnom Penh, Cambodia, Moc Bai International Border Gate sits on the Trans-Asian Highway and serves as the largest southern land border connecting Vietnam and Cambodia. Annually, over two million people pass through this border gate.
Established in 1998 by the Government’s decision, Moc Bai Border Gate Economic Zone spans an area of 21,284 hectares. Currently, 15% of the land area is utilized and operational.
