Dongfeng Automobile is accelerating its lead in battery technology with the announcement of its solid-state battery, boasting an energy density of 350 Wh/kg, set to enter mass production by September 2026. This breakthrough is poised to propel Dongfeng’s electric vehicles beyond the coveted 1,000 km range milestone—a target many manufacturers are striving to achieve.
According to Dongfeng, the innovative battery employs a multi-component structure, featuring a high-capacity ternary cathode, silicon-carbon anode, and a composite polymer-oxide solid electrolyte. This design delivers superior performance compared to current liquid-state batteries, particularly in harsh environmental conditions.
At -30°C, the battery retains over 72% of its energy, significantly outperforming the approximately 60% retention rate typical of NCM liquid-state batteries. In safety tests, the battery withstood temperatures of 170°C in a thermal chamber, far exceeding China’s national standard of 130°C.
Dongfeng has already commissioned a 0.2 GWh pilot production line to support research and testing. The company confirms that preparations for full-scale production are on track.
Alongside its solid-state battery advancements, Dongfeng unveiled the Mach Super-kV Pure Electric Platform at the 2025 World Energy Battery Conference. This 1,200 V high-voltage architecture incorporates Dongfeng’s proprietary 1,700 V silicon-carbide power modules, enabling ultra-fast charging on high-capacity infrastructure.
The system is compatible with 2 MW single-chargers, achieving remarkable charging speeds: “1 second for 2.5 km” and “5 minutes for 450 km.” These figures underscore Dongfeng’s ambition to drastically reduce charging times for next-generation electric vehicles.
Beyond rapid charging, the Mach Super-kV platform integrates cutting-edge technologies such as automated charging, contactless payment, and a high-speed electric motor capable of 30,000 RPM. When paired with high-energy batteries, the system enables vehicles to exceed a 1,000 km range.
Enhanced safety features include 1,500 J impact resistance, 48-hour temperature monitoring, and a motor-triggered fuse.
Dongfeng is also developing a fast-charging variant of its 350 Wh/kg solid-state battery, slated for commercialization in December 2027. Additionally, the company has initiated research on a sulfide-based solid-state battery with an impressive 500 Wh/kg energy density, a technology expected to set new industry benchmarks for electric vehicles in the coming years.
With a clear product roadmap and consecutive technological breakthroughs, Dongfeng is positioning itself as a pioneer in the solid-state battery era—a critical factor in driving electric vehicles toward greater range, safety, and charging efficiency in the next phase of market evolution.
