The issue was raised at the “High-Tech Agriculture for Green Growth” seminar, held on December 14th as part of TECHFEST Vietnam 2025.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Pham Duy, Head of Investment Connection at TECHFEST Vietnam, emphasized Vietnam’s natural advantages for agricultural development amidst the nation’s shift toward a green and sustainable growth model. He highlighted that promoting science, technology, and innovation is not only essential but also opens significant opportunities for agricultural startups.

TECHFEST Vietnam 2025 features 10 seminars, specialized panel discussions, and approximately 20 side activities, aimed at fostering a nationwide entrepreneurial spirit and creating an effective networking space for the innovation ecosystem.

Notably, AgriTech, FoodTech, and Eco Village communities have provided practical support to agricultural startups in various regions, particularly in mountainous provinces like Lang Son, Lao Cai, and Son La. These areas, despite their rich potential, face challenges in accessing technology and markets.

The organizers hope that through TECHFEST, agricultural startups can expand their operations in major cities and gradually connect with international investors and partners. The long-term goal is to enhance the value of Vietnamese agriculture, aligning it with green growth and sustainable development.

From a domestic ecosystem perspective, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu, founder of the MEVI Sustainable Agriculture Ecosystem, noted that Vietnamese agriculture is facing a significant transformation toward green practices and value enhancement. She expressed hope that the establishment of the Sustainable Agricultural Innovation Center, initiated by MEVI, will serve as a hub for knowledge, technology, and community connections.

The center aims to address persistent challenges, such as the gap between farmers and scientists, the lack of technology testing environments, and limitations in standardizing and commercializing agricultural products.

Sharing international insights, Mr. Csaba Bundik, a member of the EIC Accelerator Investment Board, mentioned that Europe is actively supporting high-tech agricultural startups through the European Innovation Council.

EIC is Europe’s largest public investment fund in deep-tech, with a portfolio exceeding 10 billion euros, focusing on high-risk enterprises with breakthrough technologies.

Among the solutions supported by EIC are autonomous agricultural robots powered by artificial intelligence, natural plant protection biotechnology, and smart fermentation platforms utilizing agricultural by-products. Mr. Csaba Bundik expressed optimism that EIC will act as a bridge for investment and technology transfer, helping Vietnamese agricultural startups gain deeper access to the European market.

Discussions at the seminar revealed that the major obstacles to agricultural entrepreneurship go beyond capital and technology. Challenges also include policy accessibility, a lack of expert mentorship, and the absence of local technology testing environments.

Many agreed that establishing agricultural innovation centers is an urgent need. These centers are expected to effectively connect government, scientists, businesses, and farmers, thereby enabling more sustainable implementation of agricultural initiatives.
