Mr. Lan said that he used to own a 2019 Honda Civic RS (10th generation). When he bought the car, he registered the license plate number and luckily got the number 86A-111.11. After 4 years and 40,000 km of traveling with the old car, Mr. Lan decided to upgrade to the Honda Civic Type R.
Unlike many rumors that he sold the Civic RS, Mr. Lan actually gave the old car to his wife to use, but had to do a transfer of ownership because he couldn’t transfer the car as a gift. After that, he went through the process of changing the license plate number to a special number to put on the Honda Civic Type R.

“Someone asked me why I didn’t keep the special license plate for the RS and buy another special license plate like the number 8 or number 6 for the Civic Type R. I also wanted to, everyone likes a nice number, but those special license plates are auctioned at a very high price so I hesitated,” said Mr. Hung Lan.
When asked why he spent 2.4 billion VND (excluding registration fees) to buy a Japanese sports car instead of a European car, Mr. Lan said that after using the Civic RS, he found that this car is easy to drive and comfortable, so when he heard that Honda Vietnam was selling the Civic Type R, he immediately placed an order.
He said: “Because this model is imported in very limited quantities, the first batch of cars was not enough for delivery, so I had to wait for another 6-8 months for the second batch to arrive before getting the car. I didn’t have to compete or pay any extra money to get the opportunity to buy it.”
“Certainly, many people will spend 2.4 billion to buy a BMW or Mercedes-Benz instead of a Honda Civic Type R, but I like driving, so the feeling of driving a manual transmission car is much more exciting, it gives a sense of control over the car rather than an automatic transmission car. Although driving in the city may be tiring because of using the clutch and shifting gears more often, but for people who enjoy driving, they won’t mind this issue. I have driven BMW 320i and 330i, to be honest, I like them too, but they still lack the interesting factor that I mentioned,” he said.
After using the Honda Civic Type R for a while, besides the good driving experience, Mr. Lan evaluated that this car is stable at high speeds, handles corners very well. The exterior design is beautiful and sporty, equipped with genuine Brembo brakes for a safe feeling, and the sport bucket seats with a striking red color add personality.
In general, Mr. Lan summarizes that the Honda Civic Type R brings a completely different experience compared to other cars in the same price range. Although it costs an extra 1.7 billion VND compared to a new Honda Civic RS, he finds it worth it.
When asked about the points that he is not completely satisfied with, the car owner living in Binh Thuan province said that with the price of 2.4 billion VND, the 9-inch infotainment screen is a bit small, especially when compared to BMW or Mercedes-Benz models that have screens over 10 inches. “I know that it is a sports car, the driver doesn’t really care much about the screen, but not every time the car is on the racetrack or going around corners, so having a bigger screen is still preferable,” said Mr. Hung Lan.
“The suspension system is tuned for a sporty feel, so it can be quite stiff in R+ mode when driving on rough roads, but if in normal driving mode, the shock absorber is acceptable and doesn’t create an uncomfortable feeling.”
Honda Civic Type R is a “street racing car”, imported fully from Japan. The car is developed based on the chassis platform of the standard Honda Civic but has been extensively fine-tuned in terms of aerodynamics, using a more powerful engine, a new suspension system, reinforced frame and lightweight materials… to provide a sports driving experience as well as suitability for racetracks.
The engine of the Honda Civic Type R is a 2.0L turbocharged engine, maximum output of 315 horsepower and 420 Nm of torque, paired with a 6-speed manual transmission and front-wheel drive.
Despite being a sports car, Honda Civic Type R still has the Honda Sensing safety package, with features such as adaptive cruise control, active braking support, adaptive headlights, lane departure warning and lane keeping assist, forward collision warning. In addition, other notable technologies include limited-slip differential, active steering assist, drowsiness warning…
