The Ministry of Transport (MoT) announced that from 2020 until now, Vietnam has completed two expressways projects (12 component projects, including 11 component projects of the North-South Expressway in the 2017-2020 period and Tuyen Quang-Phu Tho Expressway) with a total length of 693km passing through 15 provinces and cities, bringing the total length of expressways in the country to approximately 2,021km.
“There are about 1,700km of expressway projects under construction across the country, from the North-South Expressway projects to the projects connecting the East-West axis and connecting the Northwest and Central Highlands regions,” the MoT said. “Of these, about 1,200km are expected to be completed by 2025, including 13 projects and components with a length of 736km that are expected to be completed by 2025, and 10 projects/components with a length of 377km that need to focus on overcoming difficulties and working in three shifts a day to be completed by 2025.”
At the meeting of the State Steering Committee for important national projects and key transport projects on August 8, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, Head of the Steering Committee, emphasized the goal of completing an additional 1,200km of expressways by 2025, bringing the total length of expressways in the country to over 3,000km.
“However, the weather has now entered the rainy season, and there are predictions of abnormal and unfavorable changes,” the Prime Minister said. “The time from now to the end of 2025 is not much, and it is a period that needs to accelerate and break through to implement a large volume of work.”
Therefore, the Prime Minister requested the MoT to coordinate with localities to urgently develop and issue a detailed plan for the “critical path to complete the projects in 2025” based on conditions related to land clearance, materials, and weather, to serve as a basis for monitoring, directing, and controlling the construction progress of the projects, ensuring the goal of having 3,000km of expressways by the end of 2025.
Especially for projects that are behind schedule, there must be proactive, determined, and outstanding efforts from the managing agencies, investors, and contractors to complete them on time.
Along with this, there should be a response to and effective implementation of the emulation movement “500 days and nights of focus to complete the victory of expressway projects”, with a clear assignment of tasks, responsibilities, timelines, and expected outcomes.
Regarding land clearance and relocation of technical infrastructure (high-voltage power lines), the Prime Minister stated that this task is very important and directly affects the critical path of the project. Localities must be more focused and determined, mobilizing the entire political system as directed by the Prime Minister to complete land clearance as soon as possible.
In the coming time, the Prime Minister requested the MoT to continue directing investors and contractors to coordinate with localities to complete the North-South Expressway project in the 2021-2025 period, Bien Hoa – Vung Tau Expressway, Hoa Lien – Tuy Loan Expressway by 2025, and the component 2 of the Khanh Hoa – Buon Ma Thuot Expressway, and the Ho Chi Minh Road as planned.
The MoT was also requested to urgently implement the selection of investors to soon start the Dau Giay – Tan Phu project, as well as complete the procedures to submit to the National Assembly for adjustment of the investment policy for the Bien Hoa – Vung Tau project, promote the implementation of component 4 of the Long Thanh International Airport project, and complete the proposal for investment policy for the high-speed North-South railway project to submit to the competent authorities.
The Prime Minister also directed the State Capital Management Committee at enterprises to continue directing the Vietnam Airport Corporation and the Vietnam Expressway Development and Investment Corporation to closely control the quality and progress of airport projects, the Ben Luc – Long Thanh Expressway, and soon complete the pre-feasibility study report for the expansion project of the Ho Chi Minh City – Long Thanh section.
EVN and its subsidiaries were requested to speed up the relocation of high-voltage power lines, ensuring no impact on the construction progress of expressways, especially for projects planned to be completed by 2025.

“Anyone who claims that Son Hai’s salaries are mediocre should take a look at these numbers. Truck drivers make an average of 280-290 million VND, while dump truck drivers earn over 300 million VND. Engineers, on the other hand, can make over 500 million VND, and there are even a few exceptional cases earning over 1 billion VND.
