Vietravel, a leading Vietnamese travel company, recently hosted a group of 4,500 Indian guests, employees of an Indian billionaire’s conglomerate, on a tour of Vietnam. This event has highlighted the enormous potential and opportunities for tapping into the Indian market.

According to sources, Vietravel was responsible for accommodating and serving this large group of Indian tourists. This was the first time a major Vietnamese travel agency had served such a large number of Indian visitors. Notably, the Indian billionaire who organized this trip will be joining his employees on their journey to Hanoi, Ha Long Bay, and Ninh Binh in Vietnam.

Vietravel’s Marketing Director, Ms. Nguyen Nguyet Van Khanh, shared with reporters that due to the massive scale of the group, the company had meticulously planned a detailed itinerary for the guests’ activities. This ensured that each tourist had a complete and fulfilling experience during their 5-day tour, which combined work, leisure, and relaxation.

Indian Arrivals in Vietnam Surging

“Vietravel paid meticulous attention to the choice of accommodations at each destination. Our team of tour guides was carefully selected for their proficiency in foreign languages, extensive knowledge of the destinations, excellent presentation and storytelling skills, and adept situation handling capabilities. We ensured a well-organized and enjoyable experience for each tour group,” said Ms. Van Khanh.

Reporters have observed a remarkable surge in Indian tourists visiting Vietnam in recent times. During the first seven months of 2024, Indian visitors ranked seventh among the top ten international tourist markets for Vietnam.

Ms. Thai Phuong Hoa, CEO of Sun World (Sun Group Corporation), stated that India is currently a highly promising market, not just for Vietnam but for the entire world.

According to The Economic Times, Indian tourists are estimated to have spent approximately $42 billion on international tourism in 2024.

Indian tourists favor destinations with pleasant weather, stunning scenery, or beautiful beaches…

“Indian travelers are increasingly interested in and fond of Vietnamese destinations. Phu Quoc, Ha Long, and Da Nang are considered ideal new locations for weddings, anniversaries, and engagements among India’s upper and middle classes. Indian tourists tend to favor destinations with pleasant weather and beautiful scenery or beaches. They also enjoy shopping and entertainment services. Additionally, they prioritize destinations that offer suitable dining options, such as Indian, vegetarian, or Hala food,” said Ms. Thai Phuong Hoa.

According to statistics, Sun World theme parks have witnessed a positive growth trend in Indian visitor numbers recently. While Indian visitors numbered 50,000 in 2019, that figure rose to 200,000 in 2023 and is projected to reach 400,000 this year. Furthermore, Sun Group’s resorts in Phu Quoc and Da Nang are top choices for many Indian customers looking to host wedding celebrations.

For most Indian tourists, Vietnam is a new destination that has gained popularity since the COVID-19 pandemic. Indian travelers may not have extensive information about Vietnamese tourism. Therefore, there is a need to strengthen promotional efforts and marketing campaigns targeting the Indian market at the national level, as well as involving local governments and businesses.
