The Long Thanh International Airport Project Management Board announced on August 25 that the construction unit has started installing the steel structure for the airport’s passenger terminal roof.

The construction of the steel structure for the terminal roof (under Package 5.10) is valued at approximately VND 3,500 billion, accounting for about 10% of the contract value for the passenger terminal building at the Long Thanh International Airport Project, Phase 1.

Long Thanh International Airport’s passenger terminal is nearing completion.

Package 5.10 includes the construction of the passenger terminal building (consisting of a central terminal and three wings), with a structure of one basement and three floors, and a roof height of 45.55 meters. The terminal is designed with separate arrival and departure levels, spanning a total floor area of approximately 376,451 square meters. Forty parking positions are allocated for Code C, E, and F aircraft.

Following the completion of the concrete structure, the construction unit has recently commenced the installation of the first steel structure for the passenger terminal roof at the Long Thanh International Airport Project, Phase 1.

Workers are installing the massive steel structure.

This component is large in scale and technically demanding, with its construction progress determining the overall schedule of the entire project.

The passenger terminal is the most critical component of the Long Thanh International Airport Project, Phase 1. Therefore, the quality control of the incoming steel is rigorously managed, with testing conducted according to the project’s technical standards to ensure quality.

Specialized machinery has been mobilized by the contractors to assist in installing the passenger terminal’s steel structure.

It is estimated that approximately 32,000 tons of steel structures will be required for the installation of the roof frame of the passenger terminal at the Long Thanh International Airport, Phase 1. The installation of the main roof will commence in September 2024.

This component has a large scale and high technical requirements, and its construction progress is critical to the overall project timeline.

According to the Vietnam Airports Corporation, the Long Thanh International Airport Project, Phase 1, is expected to be completed and operationally tested before August 31, 2026. On September 2, 2026, the Long Thanh International Airport will welcome its first commercial flight.
