Vietnam Wafer JSC has just held its second annual general meeting for the 2024 financial year. At the meeting, the Company approved the election of new board members and the re-election of current members. Mr. Thomas George Forsberg, former global procurement director of IBM Corporation, is now officially the Chairman of the Board.

With over 35 years of experience, Mr. Thomas George Forsberg is an expert in developing and executing strategies to secure a stable supply of 200 and 300-mm silicon wafers for IBM’s semiconductor manufacturing processes.

Vietnam Wafer is the only company in Vietnam that provides semiconductor wafers to chip and solar panel manufacturers in the region.

Wafer, or silicon semiconductor, is the core physical component in semiconductor chip production. It serves as the canvas on which the chip’s constituent elements are etched. Wafer manufacturing, also known as wafer processing, is the first step in the chip manufacturing process.

Mr. Chau Hoang Long, Executive Director of Vietnam Wafer, cited data from Boston Consulting Group Vietnam (BCG) stating that the global semiconductor market is expected to grow by double digits in the coming years, reaching $1 trillion by 2030.

“Vietnam has key advantages to seize this opportunity with the involvement of stakeholders, attract investment, and develop a sustainable ecosystem,” he said.

In addition to its representative office in Hanoi, a factory in Quang Binh, and an R&D center in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam Wafer has established a direct presence in four international markets: Japan, South Korea, the United States, and Vietnam, through subsidiaries and representative offices. So far this year, the company has established a subsidiary in Japan (Vietnam Wafer Japan), along with representative offices in the US (Virginia) and South Korea (Incheon).

The shareholders’ meeting approved an increase in the number of board members from seven to nine and specified the board structure by adding two independent directors.
