For over 10 days, Hanoi’s air quality has consistently remained at unhealthy to very unhealthy levels, significantly impacting residents’ health. According to the IQAir app, the city’s Air Quality Index (AQI) has persistently exceeded 200, indicating severe pollution.
The deteriorating air quality has prompted many Hanoi residents to explore and purchase air purifiers to safeguard their health. Ms. Hanh Nguyen from Kim Lien district shared that she spent 5 million VND on an air purifier, concerned about the prolonged pollution’s effects on her two young children. Some families are even investing in 2-3 units to ensure clean air in every room.

Many Hanoi residents are purchasing air purifiers in hopes of mitigating the health impacts of fine dust.
A survey of major electronics retailers in Hanoi reveals a wide range of air purifiers, varying in models, functionalities, and prices to cater to diverse consumer needs. Top-selling brands in Vietnam include Sharp, Daikin, LG, Hitachi, and Coway, alongside popular options like Xiaomi, Philips, Samsung, and Electrolux.
Several electronics stores have reported a doubling in air purifier sales. Some best-selling models are facing shortages due to previously low demand, leading to insufficient stock to meet the sudden surge. A salesperson at MediaMart on Pham Van Dong Street noted a significant increase in air purifier sales during the first week of December 2025, with customer numbers multiplying compared to previous periods.
Mr. Vu Dong Tien, Director of Nguyen Kim’s Trang Thi branch in Hanoi, confirmed a sharp rise in air purifier sales over the past 10 days. The store recorded a 424% increase in sales revenue and a 251% rise in units sold compared to last year. In the first days of December alone, sales surged by 351% compared to November 2025.
According to Mr. Tien, this year’s customers are favoring high-end air purifiers from brands like LG and Dyson, priced between 15-30 million VND. Meanwhile, budget-friendly options from Philips, Daikin, and Sharp, ranging from 3-5 million VND, also attract significant interest. “The demand for air purifiers began in late November. Customers tend to buy cheaper models (3-5 million VND) online, while those seeking premium products prefer in-store purchases,” Mr. Tien explained.
Expanding on product varieties, Mr. Tien highlighted the market’s diverse offerings, including purifiers targeting fine dust, allergens, mold, bacteria, and viruses. Many products are heavily discounted on e-commerce platforms and social media, priced at just a few million VND. Additionally, there are numerous refurbished or second-hand units marketed as imported Japanese models.
“Consumers should purchase authentic products from reputable sources. Essentially, air purifiers differ primarily in their filters. Buying from unverified sellers may result in substandard filters with high replacement costs, potentially reaching several million VND per replacement,” Mr. Tien advised.
Experts recommend selecting air purifiers with capacities suitable for room sizes. When using these devices indoors, keeping doors closed is essential to prevent overworking the purifier and ensuring optimal performance.
