On November 9th, Mr. Lun Yeng, Secretary-General of the Cambodia Rice Federation (CRF), announced the results of the 2025 World’s Best Rice Competition. Cambodia’s Phka Romdoul rice (Malys Angkor brand) and Vietnam’s ST25 rice were jointly awarded first place, outperforming over 30 entries from around the globe.
This marks the third time Vietnam’s ST25 rice, developed by Labor Hero Ho Quang Cua and his team, has claimed the top honor, following victories in 2019 and 2023. This achievement further solidifies Vietnam’s position in the premium rice market.
Meanwhile, Cambodia’s Malys Angkor, crafted from the fragrant Phka Romdoul variety, secured its seventh World’s Best Rice title, adding to its wins in 2012, 2013, 2014, 2018, 2022, and 2024. Renowned for its soft texture, long grains, and floral aroma, Phka Romdoul has become a global symbol of Cambodian rice excellence.
The award was presented by The Rice Trader magazine at the 2025 World Rice Conference, held from November 7th in Phnom Penh. The event gathered leading producers, traders, and experts from the global rice industry.
Cambodia’s Ministry of Commerce hailed this achievement as a milestone for the agricultural sector, acknowledging the contributions of farmers, millers, and exporters in elevating the nation’s rice value. The success of Malys Angkor not only boosts trade but also enhances Cambodia’s reputation as a reliable source of premium rice.
Alongside international accolades, Cambodia’s rice exports continue to grow. In the first nine months of 2025, the country exported 596,341 tons of milled rice, generating $408.93 million, up from $335.4 million in the same period in 2024. Cambodian rice is now available in 69 markets, with Europe leading consumption at nearly half of total exports, followed by China.
According to CRF data, fragrant rice accounts for 68.81% of total exports, highlighting Cambodia’s focus on high-value segments. Other categories include long-grain white rice (16.18%), broken rice (10.13%), parboiled rice (2.44%), organic rice (1.88%), and other varieties (0.56%).
With internationally recognized quality and steady export growth, Cambodia and Vietnam are strengthening their leadership in the premium rice segment, shaping global market competition.
