On February 2nd, Toyota introduced the 2024 Hilux in the Australian market. This is the third facelifted version of the current generation Toyota Hilux. In this upgrade, the mid-size pickup truck underwent design refinements and added new technologies, including a 2.8L turbocharged diesel engine hybrid option.

Unlike the previously launched versions for the Japanese and European markets, the global version of the 2024 Toyota Hilux has several changes in the front design. It features a more muscular front bumper, a new hexagonal grille, revised air intakes on the sides, and an aluminum skid plate underneath. The cargo bed door has been improved for smoother opening and closing. The rest of the exterior remains unchanged.

Depending on the trim level, the exterior design of the 2024 Toyota Hilux also has some slight differences. The standard version features a honeycomb grille. The mid-grade variant adds silver accents to the lower edge of the front bumper, while the top-tier model features a dark-colored upper grille. The LED headlights are surrounded by a dark frame and there are gloss black trims on the side mirrors, door handles, and fog light bezels.

Perhaps the biggest change in the 2024 Toyota Hilux is its engine. The 2.8L 4-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine now comes with a hybrid option across all variants, although lower trims still require it as an optional extra.

The new hybrid system consists of an electric motor acting as a generator, a small lithium-ion battery, and a DC-DC converter. This addition brings temporary engine shut-off, up to 10% fuel consumption savings, and reduced noise and vibrations entering the cabin.

According to Toyota, the power and torque of the engine remain the same, with 203 horsepower and 500 Nm respectively. For the European version, the hybrid system adds 16 horsepower and 65Nm of torque, but it’s unclear for the international version. The car has 6 driving modes.

In addition to the 2.8L hybrid engine, the 2024 Toyota Hilux retains the previous engine options of a 2.7L gasoline, a 2.8L diesel, and a 2.4L diesel.

In terms of features, the 2024 Toyota Hilux now comes with 2 front and 4 rear parking sensors. The hybrid models come standard with dual-zone automatic climate control, power windows, and new floor mats. The top-tier trims also include wireless phone charging and 2 rear USB-C ports.

The starting price for the 2024 Toyota Hilux in the international market is 26,475 AUD, equivalent to 426.3 million VND.
