In early 2024, Mitsubishi is entering the market with a brand new B-segment SUV called Xforce. Initially priced at VND 620 million, the price has been adjusted to a range of VND 599 – 680 million for the three versions and deliveries will start in March.
The Xforce is imported from Indonesia and features a modern and eye-catching design, spacious interior, and better performance than the popular 7-seater Xpander. The Xforce is expected to boost sales and solidify Mitsubishi’s position in the market.
Another highly anticipated vehicle is the Suzuki Jimny. The image of the car has been teased on the company’s website with the caption “Coming soon – Coming soon”.
The first few Jimny cars were imported to Vietnam at the end of 2023, but the launch was delayed due to global supply chain disruptions, preventing the commercial batch from reaching the Vietnamese market.
The small-sized SUV from Japan features a boxy and attractive exterior and is often referred to as the “Asian Mercedes-Benz G63”. The Jimny is equipped with a 1.5L engine and a 4-speed automatic transmission, with comparable power to other B-segment cars on the market. However, Suzuki offers the Jimny with a 4WD system, including various modes for different terrains.
With its impressive off-road capabilities and rugged appearance, this 3-door Keicar is expected to attract outdoor enthusiasts. The rumored price for the Jimny is below VND 1 billion.
Next is a model from Germany – the Volkswagen Teramont X. Many dealerships have started accepting deposits for this car, although the exact price is still undisclosed. The car is expected to be launched in Vietnam soon.
Compared to the standard version, the VW Teramont X is the second generation and has many differences from the current Teramont in Vietnam, which is a facelift of the first generation. The Teramont X can be considered as a sportier version of the standard Teramont.
The Teramont X is shorter in overall length by 180 mm and lower by 48 mm. It has a 5-seat configuration compared to the 7 seats in the regular Teramont. The exterior of the car features many black details, such as the grille, front/rear bumpers, wheels, and mirror caps.
This is the next bold decision by VW, importing the second model from the Chinese market to Vietnam. Previously, the Volkswagen Viloran MPV was also introduced to Vietnam at a price of about VND 2 billion. The new strategy hopes to improve the business situation of the German automaker in Vietnam.
Next, a model from China is about to hit the Vietnamese market – the MG7. The D-segment sedan features a sporty and eye-catching exterior, similar to the MG5 and the electric sports car MG Cyberster that recently arrived in the market.
Along with its youthful and modern appearance, the MG7 is expected to offer strong performance with either a 183 or 254 horsepower engine, a 1.5L turbocharged engine paired with a 7-speed automatic transmission or a 2.0L turbocharged engine paired with a 9-speed ZF transmission.
The interior of the car features a minimalist design, with black leather and suede materials. It is equipped with modern features such as dual 10.25-inch screens behind the steering wheel and a 12.3-inch central display, a 14-speaker Bose entertainment system, panoramic sunroof, and power-adjustable seats.
According to sales consultants, the MG7 is likely to be imported directly from China with a price around VND 700 million, directly competing with the Kia K5, Mazda 6, Honda Accord, and even the Toyota Camry.
Alongside the MG7, we can’t forget another model from neighboring country China – the Chery Omoda C5. The B-segment crossover SUV was officially introduced to the media at the end of 2023 after years of research.
Compared to its competitors like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, or Mitsubishi XForce, the Omoda C5 stands out with its youthful and eye-catching design: a front grille without a frame with diamond patterns. The high tail, sloping rear window, and roof spoiler create a coupe-like silhouette, emphasizing the sporty character of the car.
Inside the car, the Omoda C5 shares similarities with the MG7 but with a more “low-key” interior with black leather and suede upholstery. The dashboard and center console have a minimalist design, giving a spacious feeling. The dual screens are prominent features, along with the electronic shifter, D-cut steering wheel, and hidden air vents.
Pursuing a sporty design with a sloping roofline, the second row of seats in the Chery Omoda C5 is not very spacious. However, the storage capacity of the trunk is excellent. The car is equipped with a 1.5L turbocharged engine with a 7-speed transmission and full ADAS driver assistance technology.
However, the pricing, launch date (although it is expected to be soon), business plan, distribution network, and after-sales policies are still unknown. These are the concerns of domestic customers along with the product quality.
Furthermore, new electric models from Vietnamese brand VinFast are expected to be launched in the domestic and international markets this year, including the VF3 mini car and the VinFast Wild pickup truck. Both electric models have been showcased at major auto exhibitions in the US and Canada earlier this year. Previously, VinFast showcased the VF3 nationwide as part of its green future event series.
In addition to the new upcoming models, Ford Vietnam is also preparing to update the current Everest SUV. According to insider information, the Ford Everest 2024 will receive some new features and improvements, while the engine configuration and pricing will remain largely unchanged.
The Ford Everest is currently the best-selling SUV in the D-segment in Vietnam. In fact, it was one of the top 10 best-selling vehicles in Vietnam in 2023, with a total of 9,960 units delivered to customers.
