VinBrain JSC, a Vingroup-backed AI healthcare startup, has announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Central Military Hospital 108 for strategic collaboration in hospital management and scientific research using artificial intelligence technology. This official signing will open up opportunities to apply artificial intelligence (AI) in medical examination, treatment, and administration at this special-level hospital.

After a trial period in several specialized departments, both VinBrain and the Central Military Hospital 108 highly appreciated the potential of AI, not only in the ongoing projects but also in the potential expansion to other specialties.

The Central Military Hospital 108 is a special-grade polyclinic in Vietnam, boasting a team of highly qualified medical professionals. The hospital operates nine institutes, 18 centers, and 24 clinical and paraclinical departments. With a capacity to receive 4,000 to 5,000 patients per day, the Central Military Hospital 108 aims to become a smart hospital by focusing on investing in advanced technology in its operations.

The current challenge is the hospital’s massive database, which needs to be efficiently utilized to become a tool for forecasting and in-depth research, carried out in the fastest and most accurate manner. Therefore, the hospital’s leadership aims to create a digital transformation revolution through AI technology, not only to optimize the medical staff’s workflow and reduce waiting times for patients but also to contribute significantly to enhancing the development of new treatment methods.

Initially, the Central Military Hospital 108 and VinBrain will focus on two breakthrough steps. First, significantly improving the diagnostic imaging process to enable doctors to make quicker and more accurate treatment decisions. Second, handling data for hospital management, including information storage, extraction, analysis, and trend prediction, thereby enhancing operational efficiency.

Major General, Prof. Dr. Le Huu Song, Director of the Central Military Hospital 108, affirmed, “We are very busy with our daily medical examination and treatment tasks, so researching new technologies is difficult due to the required time commitment. Therefore, with the coordination between the two sides, we can develop technological products that can be immediately applied in the hospital.”

“VinBrain hopes that this technological collaboration with the Central Military Hospital 108 will create momentum to accelerate the digital transformation process using AI for the hospital and the entire healthcare sector, contributing to the development of the country’s healthcare industry,” shared Mr. Truong Quoc Hung, Founder and CEO of VinBrain.

Yesterday, VinBrain was one of the ten collectives honored at the “Vinh Quang Viet Nam 2024” program through their breakthrough AI solutions. Turning five years old, VinBrain has helped put Vietnam on the global AI healthcare map by bringing advanced AI solutions to domestic medical units and successfully conquering major international markets, including the USA, India, and Australia.

These AI solutions focus on addressing the healthcare sector’s urgent issues, including diagnostic support, disease treatment (including cancer), and hospital data management. Currently, VinBrain and their AI platforms serve over 2,000 doctors in more than 182 hospitals worldwide, benefiting over two million patients.

VinBrain is also the only representative of Vietnam to have won the Gold Cup at the ASEAN Digital Awards twice in three years for their AI healthcare solutions and swept the Sao Khue Awards 2024 in their first participation, along with numerous other academic research achievements.

“The nomination and recognition at ‘Vinh Quang Viet Nam 2024’ is a timely boost for VinBrain to continue its mission: to widely deploy AI-integrated products that are beneficial to many localities and serve multiple demographics, bringing equality in healthcare. Additionally, the company is developing more challenging products with higher practical value for medical professionals and hospital management, enhancing the quality of healthcare services,” VinBrain’s representative stated.

Mr. Truong Quoc Hung shared, “We hope that this program will continue to spread the message about the country’s strength and potential while encouraging people to contribute and develop in the most positive direction possible.”

VinBrain was established in 2019 with a charter capital of 30 billion VND after a conversation between Mr. Pham Nhat Vuong and Mr. Truong Quoc Hung, who was then the Director of Artificial Intelligence at Microsoft.

“Working at Microsoft, we may excel in technology and create economic values, but I think we need to use this technological knowledge to serve people and our nation first. I also hope to bring the value of Vietnamese intelligence to the world in the future. Doing so will create a driving force for our youth to reach for the world,” said Mr. Truong Quoc Hung in an interview.

In 2023, VinBrain scaled up more than 20 times and created breakthroughs with its AI product in the healthcare field, named DrAid. They developed DrAid in three strategic directions: Comprehensive X-ray Screening Group; Cancer Diagnosis and Treatment Group; and the group addressing century-old diseases such as tuberculosis and thalassemia.

VinBrain is also one of the first enterprises to commercialize AI products in healthcare in the international market.
