A Leading Chinese Investment Fund Holds Over 91 Million VPBank Shares

Joint Stock Commercial Bank for Foreign Trade of Vietnam, more commonly known as Vietcombank (VPB – Code: VPB), has recently released an update on its major shareholders holding 1% or more of its charter capital as of August 20th. Notably, a new investor, Tianhong Vietnamese Market Equity Launched QDII Fund, has joined the list.

Specifically, this investment fund currently holds over 91 million VPB shares, equivalent to 1.15% of the bank’s charter capital. According to our research, the fund is a Chinese open-ended fund that invests in the Vietnamese stock market, particularly tracking the VN30 index. The fund allocates nearly 80% of its total assets to equities, with at least 80% of its non-cash assets invested in Vietnam-related stocks.

Previously, Tianhong Vietnamese Market Equity Launched QDII Fund was not listed as a major shareholder with a stake of over 1% in VPBank, as per the report published on July 19th.

VPBank’s shareholder information is based on data reported up to August 20th, 2024.

On the other hand, Composite Capital Master Fund LP has significantly reduced its ownership in VPBank from 2.7% (as announced on July 19th) to 1.7% of the charter capital, equivalent to more than 135 million VPB shares (as of August 20th). Composite Capital Master Fund LP is an investment fund registered in the Cayman Islands and is known for its association with Dragon Capital through several stock purchases.

According to VPBank’s disclosure in July, the bank had 13 individual shareholders holding 1% or more of its charter capital, including: Chairman Ngo Chi Dung (4.1411%), Ms. Hoang Anh Minh (4.1184%), Ms. Vu Thi Quyen (4.1075%), Mr. Tran Ngoc Trung (3.8454%), Ms. Kim Ngoc Cam Ly (3.6124%), Ms. Ly Thi Thu Ha (3.5560%), Ms. Tran Ngoc Lan (3.9051%), Mr. Le Viet Anh (3.5325%), Ms. Le Minh Anh (2.7061%), Ms. Nguyen Thu Thuy (2.5630%), Bui Hai Quan – Vice Chairman of VPBank (holding 1.9704%), Mr. Nguyen Duc Vinh – CEO of VPBank (holding 1.3222%), and Mr. Nguyen Manh Cuong (1.4464%).

In addition to the individual shareholders, VPBank also disclosed four institutional investors, including Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (a strategic investor holding over 15% of charter capital), DIERACORP Joint Stock Company (holding 4.3957% of charter capital), Composite Capital Master Fund LP (holding 2.7301% of charter capital), and Vietnam Enterprise Investments Limited (holding 1.2839% of charter capital).
