In response to inquiries from voters, the Ministry of Transport has provided an update on the progress of the Long Thanh International Airport project. The Ministry confirmed that the Prime Minister has approved four investment projects for the construction of the airport’s first phase, with a total investment of VND 109,111,742 billion (USD 4,664,89 million). These projects include:
(1) Project Component 1 – Government Management Agency Facilities
(2) Project Component 2 – Air Traffic Control Facilities
(3) Project Component 3 – Essential Airport Facilities (with ACV as the investor and a total investment of VND 99,019,26 billion)
(4) Project Component 4 – Other Works
To expedite the process, the Ministry of Transport, the investor, contractors, and consulting units have focused their resources on reviewing, researching, and developing construction plans. As a result, they have successfully shortened the timeline for the Passenger Terminal and Runway projects by nearly three months compared to the contractual schedule.
The goal is to complete the Passenger Terminal before August 31, 2026, and put it into operation on the occasion of the National Day celebration on September 2, 2026. Simultaneously, the construction timeline for the Runway has been reduced by three months, ensuring its technical operation before April 30, 2025, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the liberation of Southern Vietnam and the reunification of the country.
The Long Thanh International Airport is a key national project and a special-grade construction, holding significant importance for the development of the Southern Key Economic Zone and Vietnam as a whole.
Additionally, the Ministry provided an update on the progress of the construction of Terminal 3 at Tan Son Nhat International Airport. Due to challenges in land clearance, the project could only commence in December 2022, and the main contract for the construction of Terminal 3 was signed on August 31, 2023. The contract took effect on October 15, 2023, with a construction period of 20 months, aiming for completion by June 15, 2025. Currently, the structural work has been completed, and the project is in the process of architectural finishing, construction, interior design, and equipment installation, with an overall progress of approximately 70%.
The investor ACV, contractors, and consulting units are committed to focusing their resources and optimizing the construction schedule to shorten the timeline by two months compared to the contract. They are determined to complete the project by April 30, 2025, marking the 50th anniversary of the liberation of Southern Vietnam and national reunification.
