On the afternoon of August 29, the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee’s Communication and Education Board and the Municipal Department of Information and Communications held a press briefing to provide information on economic and social issues in the area.

At the press conference, Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Thang Long, Deputy Head of the Command – Ho Chi Minh City Police, informed about the rampant online gambling related to Labubu lottery.

Prior to this, the media raised the question of whether playing Labubu lottery online is a form of gambling.

Lieutenant Colonel Long stated that the Ho Chi Minh City Police have always proactively deployed synchronous professional measures to grasp, detect, and handle illegal acts, including activities that take advantage of cyberspace to gamble or organize gambling.

“The handling of any act with signs of illegality must be based on documents and evidence collected in accordance with the correct procedures and provisions of the law,” Lieutenant Colonel Long emphasized.

Regarding the content as reflected by the press, Lieutenant Colonel Long said that the Ho Chi Minh City Police have grasped the modus operandi and organization of this game. The professional units of the Ho Chi Minh City Police have been and are collecting documents to proceed with handling in accordance with the law if there is a violation.

According to Lieutenant Colonel Long, when people participate in these activities, they can also easily become victims of fraud (buying counterfeit goods, being tricked into transferring a deposit to purchase goods online, not receiving prizes after winning…)

If people detect any gambling-related activities, they should promptly contact the police to report, provide information, and support verification, investigation, and handling in accordance with regulations. The identity of the reporter will be kept confidential by the police.

The Ho Chi Minh City Police advised people to be cautious about lucky draws or other prize-winning games online to avoid violating the law.

Recently, Labubu – also known as the rabbit monster with long ears and sharp teeth – has been creating a buzz among young people, despite its less-than-cute appearance but somewhat humorous and unique look.

Images of young people in Ho Chi Minh City lining up in front of a shopping mall from early morning, even staying up all night, to buy Labubu have been shared across social media platforms.

In response to this fever, there have been mixed opinions in the online community. Some people consider it a pointless trend that wastes time and money, while others view it as a personal preference for relaxation and happiness among the youth.

Amid this craze, Labubu sellers on TikTok have been livestreaming raffle draws (similar to lotteries or lucky draws), where players choose a random number according to the host’s rules, transfer money, and eagerly wait to see if they are lucky enough to win a Labubu…
