On the morning of September 22, General Secretary and State President To Lam and his wife, along with a high-ranking delegation from Vietnam, arrived in New York to commence their official visit to the United States.

At 5:05 pm on September 21, local time (early September 22 in Vietnam), the special aircraft carrying General Secretary and President Tho Lam and his wife, along with a high-level Vietnamese delegation, arrived at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York, beginning the program to attend the Future Summit, the High-Level General Discussion Session of the 79th United Nations General Assembly, and work in the USA.

Welcoming the General Secretary, President, and their wife at John F. Kennedy International Airport were Vietnamese Ambassador to the USA Nguyen Quoc Dung and his wife, along with Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang, head of the Vietnamese delegation to the United Nations, and other embassy and delegation officials.

This is the first working trip of General Secretary and President Tho Lam in his new position to attend multilateral foreign affairs activities and work in the USA. It is also the first time that a General Secretary and President of Vietnam has directly participated in high-level meetings at the United Nations General Assembly.

The Future Summit, with the theme “Multilateral Solutions for a Better Future,” and the High-Level General Discussion of the 79th United Nations General Assembly, themed “Not Leaving Anyone Behind: Joint Action to Promote Peace, Sustainable Development, and Respect for All People’s Dignity for Current and Future Generations,” aim to unify global solutions to future challenges and pressing global issues.

During the High-Level Week of the 79th United Nations General Assembly, General Secretary and President Tho Lam is expected to deliver important speeches at the Future Summit and the General Assembly, bringing significant messages and strong support for multilateralism and the central role of the United Nations in peace, cooperation, and development worldwide.

At the United Nations, the General Secretary and President will also have bilateral meetings and interactions with leaders of international organizations and countries participating in the High-Level Week of the 79th United Nations General Assembly.

As part of his busy schedule, General Secretary and President Tho Lam will also hold important bilateral engagements with US government leaders. He will attend and speak at an event commemorating the 30th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam-US diplomatic relations and one year of their upgraded relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Additionally, he will have interactions and work sessions with leaders of the US Congress, political parties, and heads of ministries and sectors in the USA, along with other significant foreign affairs activities.
