Just launched in Vietnam alongside the iPhone 17 series in mid-September, Apple’s brand-new iPhone Air has unexpectedly received a significant price cut. This move is believed to stimulate demand for a product that has had a slower-than-expected start.
Major retailers report that the 256GB iPhone Air is now priced at just 30 million VND, a 2 million VND reduction from its original launch price. The 512GB and 1TB variants have also seen price drops of 1-2 million VND, depending on color. This is a substantial discount for a device that’s only been on the market for a month.
In contrast to the iPhone Air’s performance, certain iPhone 17 models remain in high demand, with some versions even selling at inflated prices on the black market.
A representative from a retail chain explained the early price cut: “The iPhone Air, designed to replace the Plus series, hasn’t met market expectations. Currently, it accounts for only about 5% of total sales for the new iPhone lineup.”
To achieve its record-thin design featuring a titanium frame and Ceramic Shield 2 coating, the iPhone Air made several compromises. It includes only a single 48MP rear camera and eliminates the physical SIM tray, supporting eSIM exclusively. For many users, these limitations are significant drawbacks compared to the versatility of the iPhone 17 series and other premium smartphones.
Recently, South Korea’s The Elec reported that Apple plans to reduce iPhone Air production by approximately 1 million units due to lower-than-anticipated demand. Despite its striking design, the iPhone Air is struggling to find its place between the more feature-rich iPhone 17 and 17 Pro models.
