Regarding the progress and results of the investigation into the case at Phuc Son Group Joint Stock Company, Thang Long Commercial Investment and Real Estate Joint Stock Company, and several related agencies and localities, Colonel Nguyen Quang Phuong provided the following information: The case was initiated on February 26, 2024, and so far, the Ministry of Public Security’s Investigation Police Agency has prosecuted and detained 23 defendants to investigate five crimes: Violation of accounting regulations causing serious consequences; Violation of bidding regulations causing serious consequences; Receiving bribes; Taking advantage of positions and influence to gain benefits; and Abusing positions and powers while performing official duties. These crimes took place at Phuc Son Group Joint Stock Company, Thang Long Commercial Investment and Real Estate Joint Stock Company, and in the provinces of Vinh Phuc, Quang Ngai, and Vinh Long, along with related units.

The investigating agency is continuing to clarify the violations of the accused and related subjects and is proceeding with the investigation according to the plan. This is a very complex case involving multiple localities, and the volume of objects and documents to be collected is relatively large. The investigation agency is consolidating documents and evidence while expanding the case, recovering lost and appropriated assets worth over 300 billion VND, 2 million USD, and more than 500 taels of gold, and temporarily holding over 1,000 red books.

In response to the press’s question regarding the management, use, divestment, and restructuring of capital and assets at Vietnam National Tobacco Corporation, Colonel Nguyen Quang Phuong, Deputy Director of the Police Department for Investigation of Crimes of Corruption, Economy, and Smuggling, said: Regarding this issue, the Government Inspectorate has concluded its inspection of the management, use, divestment, and restructuring of capital and assets at Vietnam National Tobacco Corporation, which includes violations by the private enterprise Tuan Dung. On December 20, 2022, the Criminal Police Department sent Document No. 4183/CV-CSKT-P9 to the Government Inspectorate, requesting that the case be transferred to the Investigative Police Agency of Tay Ninh Provincial Public Security for handling according to their competence. The Police Department for Investigation of Crimes of Corruption, Economy, and Smuggling continues to urge and guide the Investigative Police Agency of Tay Ninh Provincial Public Security to speed up the verification of the case.
