At the conference on tourism development in Dong Nai province held on the afternoon of August 7, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee Nguyen Hong Linh set out several tasks for the Provincial Tourism Development Steering Committee, units, and localities to promote solutions to develop the tourism industry commensurate with the province’s potential and advantages.

According to Mr. Nguyen Hong Linh, phase 1 of the Long Thanh International Airport project is expected to be operational by 2026. In this phase, the airport will serve 70,000 passengers per day, and this number will increase to 300,000 in phase 2.

“This is an advantage that few other localities have. Dong Nai needs to be well-prepared in terms of infrastructure, tourism products, and projects to capitalize on the influx of international visitors once the Long Thanh Airport becomes operational,” Mr. Nguyen Hong Linh noted.

The Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee suggested that the Provincial Tourism Steering Committee, units, and localities research and develop five tourist routes to take advantage of the Long Thanh Airport.

Specifically, the first route will connect the airport with Bien Hoa city and Vinh Cuu district; the second route will go from the airport to Dau Giay, Dinh Quan, and Tan Phu, linking to Da Lat in Lam Dong province; the third route will lead from the airport to Long Khanh city and Xuan Loc, connecting to Phan Thiet in Binh Thuan province; the fourth route will go from the airport to Cam My, connecting to Ho Tram in Ba Ria-Vung Tau province; and the fifth route will focus on ecotourism, taking visitors from the airport to Nhon Trach and Long Thanh to explore the mangrove forests, Long Thanh ecological forest, and river tourism spots.

Regarding specific tourism products, Mr. Nguyen Hong Linh proposed that on the occasion of the 30/4 anniversary of the Liberation of Southern Vietnam in 2025, the province should organize a hot air balloon festival, a pottery festival, and a brass band festival.

“These are unique strengths of the locality. We have Tri An Lake for the hot air balloon festival, the traditional pottery village of Bien Hoa, and over 3,000 young people playing brass instruments in the parishes across the province. These are distinctive advantages that no other locality possesses. We must showcase not only Dong Nai’s industrial labor force but also its rich cultural traditions and beautiful natural landscapes,” Mr. Nguyen Hong Linh emphasized.

According to the Dong Nai People’s Committee, the completed and ongoing high-speed roads and belt roads are advantageous for the province to attract tourists. Notably, the Phan Thiet-Dau Giay expressway has been put into operation, and construction has started on the Bien Hoa-Vung Tau expressway and the Ho Chi Minh City Belt Road 3 project.

Additionally, the Ben Luc-Long Thanh expressway project has been restarted, and the Dau Giay-Tan Phu and Tan Phu-Bao Loc expressways are in the pipeline. The pre-feasibility study report is being prepared for the Ho Chi Minh City Belt Road 4 project, and there are plans to expand the Ho Chi Minh City-Long Thanh-Dau Giay expressway from An Phu intersection to the Bien Hoa-Vung Tau expressway.

These advantages will enhance Dong Nai’s connectivity to the intra-provincial transportation system and tourist attractions, attracting more visitors in the future.

Vice Director of the Provincial Culture, Sports, and Tourism Department Nguyen Thi Mong Binh said that currently, the province has 135 accommodation facilities with a total of 3,712 rooms (including 14 facilities rated from 1 to 5 stars). There are 47 domestic travel businesses and 14 international travel enterprises.

Dong Nai is implementing several key tourism projects, including the Thac Mai-Bau Nuoc Soi project, the eco-tourism and resort complex project at Chua Chan Mountain and Nui Le Lake, the eco-tourism, resort, and entertainment project at the Long Thanh Forest Protection Management Board, and the Tan Phu forest tourism project.

Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Son Hung said that in the coming time, the province would continue to focus on exploiting market segments and tourism products in which Dong Nai has strengths, such as golf tourism, forest eco-tourism, sightseeing tours, rural tourism, and culinary tourism.

According to the Dong Nai People’s Committee, in the first seven months of 2024, the province’s tourism industry welcomed more than 2.1 million visitors, an increase of 17.8%. The revenue from tourism services reached VND 1,385 billion, up 29.1% compared to the same period in 2023. The number of staying visitors reached 434,000, an increase of 17% over the same period in 2023, while international visitors reached 61,784, a decrease of 9% compared to the same period in 2023.
