The Deputy Prime Minister highly appreciated the important and pioneering role of Samsung Vietnam in the economic cooperation relationship between Vietnam and Korea in general and the business community of the two countries in particular, as well as the process of digital and green economic transformation in Vietnam.

At the reception, Mr. Choi Joo Ho reported to the Deputy Prime Minister on some business results of Samsung Vietnam in the past time.

Currently, Samsung Vietnam has 6 manufacturing plants and 1 research and development center, with a total investment capital of 22.8 billion USD. The export turnover of Samsung Vietnam from January 2024 to July 2024 reached 33.5 billion USD, up 5% over the same period.

Highly appreciating the fact that the Government of Vietnam has issued Decree No. 80/2024/ND-CP dated July 3, 2024, stipulating the mechanism for direct power purchase agreements (DPPA) between renewable energy generators and large power consumers, Mr. Choi Joo Ho said that Samsung Vietnam hopes to be facilitated to increase the proportion of electricity use from renewable energy sources for production, with reasonable prices and costs, contributing to the realization of Vietnam’s commitment to net zero emissions by 2050.

Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha emphasized that right after the DPPA mechanism was issued, the Prime Minister directed the Ministry of Industry and Trade to urgently review and issue criteria for selecting renewable energy power projects with connection to the national grid to be included in the Power Planning Implementation Plan 8 if they ensure system safety, transmission capacity, and economic efficiency… As for renewable energy power projects that are not connected to the national grid, there is no limit on capacity.

In addition, Vietnam will accompany and encourage enterprises to promote green transition and reduce carbon emissions through the development of regulations on emission limits, carbon credit market, carbon tax policy, green finance, land incentives, etc.

The Deputy Prime Minister suggested that foreign enterprises, including Samsung Vietnam, continue to make practical proposals and recommendations to immediately remove difficulties and obstacles in the process of implementing the DPPA mechanism, towards operating the Vietnamese electricity market according to a full market mechanism.

The Deputy Prime Minister assigned the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Vietnam Electricity (EVN), and relevant ministries and branches to continue working with Samsung Vietnam on the proposals mentioned during the reception.

In the coming time, the Deputy Prime Minister suggested Samsung continue to pay attention to and invest in research and development centers and technology transfer in new industries such as semiconductor chips.
