On September 26, as part of the program of activities at the 3rd Global Digital Trade Expo (GDTE 2024) in Hangzhou, China, the Trade Promotion Agency of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Vietnam, in coordination with the Department of Commerce of Zhejiang Province, China, and Alibaba.com, organized the “Vietnam-China Trade Promotion Conference in the field of digital commerce.”

More than 80 Vietnamese enterprises from various sectors, including e-commerce products, mobile information technology (5G/6G), chips, AI application software (artificial intelligence), digital technology, and innovative applications, as well as IP content such as IP games and game design, participated in the trade conference.

In his opening remarks, Deputy Director of the Trade Promotion Agency, Mr. Hoang Minh Chien, stated that over the years, Vietnam-China relations have made significant, profound, and comprehensive strides, notably evident in the growing mutual understanding and trust between the two nations.

Especially since the beginning of this year, high-level engagements between the two sides have been frequent, and exchanges between ministries, sectors, and localities have remained close. Cooperation in various fields has continued to deepen, bringing practical benefits to the people of both countries.

Despite the dynamic international environment and the respective reform, development, and stability tasks of the two countries, China has consistently maintained its position as Vietnam’s largest trading partner for over 20 years. Vietnam has also consistently been China’s leading trade partner in the ASEAN region.

The ever-increasing trade turnover between the two countries (according to the General Statistics Office, the two-way trade turnover between Vietnam and China reached 112.9 billion USD in the first seven months of 2024) reflects the sustainable development of the Vietnam-China economic cooperation relationship, in line with the motto “friendly neighbors, comprehensive cooperation, long-term stability, and orientation to the future.”

Moreover, the robust development of digital commerce in the context of the Fourth Industrial Revolution has created new momentum and opened up more cooperation opportunities for the Vietnamese and Chinese business communities.

With their advantages in a young population, a spirit of innovation, and technological expertise, enterprises from both countries possess tremendous potential to jointly explore and promote breakthroughs in the field of digital commerce.

As a dynamic economy that has always been at the forefront of China’s reform and opening-up, Zhejiang Province, according to Mr. Chien, has affirmed its outstanding advantages in digital commerce and the digital economy, becoming an ideal destination for the Global Digital Trade Expo.

“We believe that the Zhejiang Provincial Department of Commerce will continue to be an important bridge, contributing to promoting effective cooperation and exchange between Vietnamese and Chinese enterprises,” Mr. Chien said.

Mr. Chien particularly emphasized the positive coordination of Alibaba.com in promoting and organizing activities to support Vietnamese enterprises, helping them improve their skills and knowledge in export and international e-commerce, thereby contributing to building a sustainable business foundation. He also expressed his hope that in the coming time, strengthened cooperation with Alibaba.com will increasingly bring about practical effects, actively supporting Vietnamese enterprises in trade promotion activities.

The conference included bilateral working sessions between Vietnamese and Chinese enterprises. Here, representatives of the enterprises had the opportunity to exchange information and introduce potential areas for cooperation.

“This is an opportunity for domestic enterprises to learn, seek new cooperation opportunities, connect and expand their network of partners with Chinese enterprises – a huge and potential market, especially in the field of digital commerce. At the same time, it helps enterprises grasp new trends, thereby enhancing the international competitiveness of Vietnamese enterprises in general,” emphasized Mr. Chien.

The conference also facilitated enterprises’ access to new technologies and advanced digital solutions in the fields of e-commerce, smart logistics, digital supply chain management, online payment, and security.
