Leakage Issue at T3 Terminal After Heavy Rain
The T3 Terminal at Tan Son Nhat International Airport experienced leakage issues again following a heavy downpour on May 24th. Passengers witnessed water seeping into the terminal’s concourse area. The project management team assured that the cause has been identified and rectified on the same day.
According to the Vietnam Airports Corporation (ACV), the investor of the T3 Terminal project, the incident occurred briefly without impacting the terminal’s operations.
The water collection system from the roof is designed to channel water through gutters and pipes to drainage pits. However, a loose gasket at one of the pipe connections caused water to leak out and spill onto the floor.
“As soon as the issue was identified, engineers and workers inspected the entire drainage system on the roof. By the evening, the leakage was temporarily fixed, and the contractor planned to replace the gasket and permanently resolve the connection issue overnight on May 24th,”
ACV representative stated.

Previously, on May 7th, a similar incident occurred at the T3 Terminal due to material shrinkage at the junction between the main roof and the skylight roof, resulting in water infiltration.
While both leaks were promptly addressed, the recurrence within a month has raised questions about the construction quality and supervision of the project, which has a total investment of over VND 11,000 billion.
The T3 Terminal at Tan Son Nhat International Airport is a key transportation project, commenced by ACV in late 2022. It was inaugurated on April 19th, 2025, and officially operated from April 30th, 2025, marking the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of Southern Vietnam and National Reunification.
The terminal spans over 112,500 square meters, comprising one basement and four floors, with separate areas for departures and arrivals. It is equipped with 90 check-in counters, 20 automatic bagdrop machines, 42 check-in gates, and 27 aircraft boarding gates.
Additionally, the parking and non-aviation services building covers an area of 130,000 square meters, featuring two basement levels and four floors. With the T3 Terminal in operation, the Tan Son Nhat Airport can now serve up to 50 million passengers annually, including 20 million domestic passengers, significantly easing the burden on the T1 Terminal.
Currently, all domestic flights of Vietnam Airlines are operated from the T3 Terminal.
